Behringer B-Tron III is an analog clone/replica of the vintage Mu-Tron III envelope filter from 1972 for an estimated price of $99.

Last November 2022, Behringer released the Dual Phase, an analog clone/replica of the popular Mu-Tron Bi-Phase. After naming problems (trademark) and a lack of chips, the release was delayed. But it seems to be on the way (4-6 weeks), according to the Thomann website.

The first batch of the old “Bi-Phase” version was shipped in 2022. Numerous video demos are on YouTube. Now they’re reaching for another Mu-Tron design. This time, it’s a vintage envelope filter recreation.

We’re getting ready with the B-TRON III, a fantastic envelope filter. We’re targeting a retail price of US$ 99.

The B-Tron III is an analog recreation (clone/replica) of the vintage Mu-Tron III envelope filter pedal. It hosts the same features as the original pedal. You get a state-variable multimode filter with selectable lowpass, bandpass, or highpass modes. It’s a pity that Behringer doesn’t expand it with a notch filter, as Mu-Tron did on their III+.

The peak knob controls the volume of the cutoff frequency while the gain adjusts the filter’s sensitivity to the signal of your instrument.

Then, you get three switches. Range (low/high) sets the frequency range covered by the filter envelope. Down/up (upwards) selects the direction of the filter sweep. Behringer took everything from the design, even the on/off switch on the pedal.

I see this pedal less of a highlight for synthesizer players. The Dual Phase is more exciting unless you have a Clavinet at home, which allows you to create the legendary filtered “quaky” sound.

Behringer B-Tron III says an estimated price of $99, and availability is TBA.

  1. Bi-phase is still available at Musix website. I got mine two weeks ago. Sounds great.

  2. I’d actually be more interested in a “Micro-Tron IV” clone with all its enhancements and smaller size.
Give us both while you’re at it.
