AJH Synth Mini Mod Tap Tempo VC-LFO, a new voltage-controlled LFO with a colorful bouquet of waveforms and neat shaping extras.
Classic circuit designs like the Minimoog from Moog are often replicated in hardware and software. A classic replica is a bit unexciting to me at least since the whole concept is left as it is. So no big new features, etc.
With the Mini Mod, the British Eurorack developer AJH has a module series in its portfolio that replicates the concept of the Minimoog and at the same time leads it behind the initial design. The first modules were still very close to the original, the latter are becoming more and more playful and deeper. For the Superbooth 22, AJH published the Multi Burst envelope, now it launched the Tap Tempo VC-LFO.

AJH Synths’ new module is a tap tempo voltage-controlled VCO that is part of the Mini Mod lineup. It features sixteen different waveforms available ranging from classic up to more wild. It contains also S&H-like random stepped voltages and a unique random sloped voltage.
They are distributed in two banks selectable via an 8-way rotary switch and bank selector switch. Amazing here that you can not only manually switch the waveforms but also with control voltage. Then, you can tweak them using four different parameters. A CV-controllable multiply function allows you to double, treble, quadruple, or half the LFO rate. So you can vary the modulation frequency but still keep it relative to the tempo of the track. That’s very handy.
Next to this is a frequency knob with CV control that covers a wide range from 0,05Hz (one cycle every 20 seconds) to 50Hz. You can also patch another modulator in the frequency input and create exponential frequency modulation.
There is also a unique waveform twist function that gives you PWM-style duty cycle variation. This can be applied to 15 of the 16 waveforms. And you get a level knob to control the modulation amount level.
Connection side, the Mini Mod Tap Tempo VC-LFO has CV inputs for all the features as well as clock in/out and simultaneously bipolar and unipolar outputs. It also has a built-in VCA allowing easy control of the modulation level of both outputs. There is also a tap tempo button on the frontpanel.
Looks like a very solid and interesting LFO module that can do more than many of the classic ones and it’s priced very fair.
AJH Synth TAP Tempo VC-LFO is available now for 223€ in either black or silver.
