The market for 1U modules has grown significantly in the last few months. Clearly noticeable: the well-known format for utility modules has evolved. More and more companies showed non-utility 1U modules. From VCOs, filters, drum synths, envelopes, and more.
A modular Synthesizer made of 1U modules has never been so easy to build as it is today. And Intellijel also now has a VCO in their mini format.
Intellijel VCO 1U
VCO 1U is an analog, triangle core oscillator with pure waveforms and precise tracking in mini size. Using the first switch on the left side, you can turn the VCO into a precise LFO. The module has four simultaneous classic waveforms: sine, triangle, square, and sawtooth. Then, you have pitch input that can be used for 1V/Oct tracking and FM. A dedicated pitch knob completes this input. It has a three-octave range in VCO (extended to seven with the octave switch) and a seven-octave range in LFO mode (extended to 11 with the octave switch).
With the three-position octave switch on the left, you can jump up or down by two octaves within seconds. Right under pitch input, VCO 1U has a sync input for hard sync the oscillator to another. This input has a comparator so that you can use a variety of waveforms as triggers. A handy bi-color LED indicates the state of the triangle core rate.
At first glance a practical, small oscillator that takes up little space and quickly gives you more sound or modulations. It is also nice to see that oscillators … now make it into the 1U area. More of that, please.
