iConnectivity AUDIO4c, is a new fully configurable USB-C audio & MIDI interface that is geared towards studio but also mobile musicians/streamers.

iConnectivity was the first company to have an iOS loopback built into their interface, with which you could transfer audio from the iPad / iPhone via USB. Even before Apple introduced Inter Device Audio MIDI for macOS. Later with their larger interfaces, audio also came into play, making them powerful audio interfaces for mobile musicians.

Now the company is taking a logical step. They follow the current trend and bring a USB-C interface to the market with the name AUDIO4c. And as the name suggests, it’s not just about MIDI but also about audio routing.

The technical details at the start. The new AUDIO4c interface features four XLR/instrument inputs, four line outputs, a headphone connection, and full MIDI on DIN and USB. It runs at 24-bit/96kHz, not in 192kHz like many of the competition but it has unique features.

It also hosts dual USB-C ports with which you can connect two devices simultaneously. More precisely, you can exchange audio & MIDI with a PC/Mac and iOS/Android device at the same time, and charge them what is an important point for mobile musicians. There’s also a USB-MIDI host port on the backside for up to 8 USB MIDI class-compliant devices. This could be MIDI keyboards or a USB hub. On the front panel, you have a LED indicator and a jog wheel for gain/volume adjustments.

Auracle App

As with their older interfaces, the new AUDIO4c relies on their Auracle app for macOS/Windows. This software allows you to configure and monitor the signal path for recording and streaming. The interface has many configuration options. It can have up to three virtual stereo mixes, one for the outputs 1/2, outputs 3/4, and one for the headphones.

I cannot confirm whether the audio can be routed from the iPad via USB again. It would be nice if it were possible. That was a big advantage of the former iConnectivity products. If that is possible again, this interface could be a perfect partner for musicians with iOS and Android devices.

Auracle App

According to the developer, the interface is a problem solver for the modern connected world perfect for streamers, live recordings, or players. Further, you get a bundle with software that includes a copy of Ableton Live lite and samples from Big Fish Audio.

The new AUDIO4c offers a lot of features at a fair price. Lots of connections, integrated USB host port, lots of configuration options…. If the MIDI drivers are rock solid, it’s a very interesting interface that is almost unrivaled on the market with this feature set.

iConnectivity AUDIO4c is available soon for $399 USD/399€. It is compatible with macOS, Windows, iOS (8.0+), and Android (8+). The Auracle app runs under macOS (from 10.11) and Windows (from 10).
