AAS Multiphonics CV-3: free update 3.1 is out now with more FM synthesis and modulation power, plus a new sound pack

Almost to the day in 2025, the Canadian company AAS released Multiphonics CV-3, the third version of its modular Synthesizer plugin. Among other things, more physical modeling synthesis was added to the plugin, along with full polyphony and MPE.

Update 3.1 of Multiphonics CV-3 is now available as a free update, further expanding the synthesis capabilities.

What’s New In Version 3.1?

Multiphonics CV-3 update 3.1 introduces more FM synthesis and other functionality.

On the synthesis side, it adds the new FM Core operator module to the library, which is described as a building block for creating complex digital FM patches.

It uses a single operator of the previously introduced 3-operator Digital FM module, but with expanded modulation options. You have four FM inputs and six modulation inputs. All this is topped with a wide range of controls, including tuning, feedback, a lowpass filter, and more.

Then, the Rez oscillator module is inspired by a technique from the mid 1980s that simulates resonant low-pass filter sweeps without requiring a low-pass filter. It combines phase distortion, hard sync, FM, and amplitude modulation in a powerful module.

It includes three sound shaping controls (phase dist, rez freq, rez FM) and five modulation inputs. The third new module is an 8-segment envelope generator module with built-in quantization. Using this allows you to create very complex modulations.

And the last new module is a spectrum analyzer with three display types and four window types for visualizing signals in the frequency domain

FM Core

Simultaneously with this update, AAS also released FM Core, a new Multiphonics CV-3 sound pack in collaboration with sound designer Adam Pietruszko. It features 100 new patches that highlight the new FM features of the update 3.1.

According to AAS, it draws inspiration from synthwave, VHS soundtracks, and iconic ’80s pop. The new 100 patches blend classical DX-style electric pianos, basses, bells, and plucks with modern leads, lush pads, percussion, 8-bit game effects, and experimental atonal textures.

FM Core also offers patches for building a vintage drum machine with a retro vibe, ideal for lo-fi tracks.

An exciting update that makes the modular plugin even more multifaceted and flexible.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 3.1 is a free update for existing users. To celebrate this release, AAS also launched limited-time 50% OFF sales on the entire Multiphonics CV-3 product range, including the full version, upgrades, packs bundle, and individual sound packs.

Plus, you get the FM Core sound pack for free with every new purchase or upgrade during the promotion.

Update

Article from February 18, 2025

At NAMM 2025, AAS unveiled the new Multiphonics CV-3 plugin for macOS and Windows, a significant feature update for its unique modular synth. Version 3 has many exciting new features, such as polyphony support, that level up the plugin.

Today, it’s the day. Multiphonics CV-3 is out now.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3

Like CV-2, Multiphonics CV-3 will not be a free update, but upgrades will be available for existing users once it’s released.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 remains a modular Synthesizer and FX processor plugin. Unlike VCV Rack or Cherry Audio, AAS takes a different approach with its modular synth plugin and does not emulate the Eurorack world. This can be seen in the developed modules and their concept.

The AAS developers have incorporated exciting new features into the new version, which finally moves the plugin in the direction of the previous Tassman 4 Synthesizer.

A highlight will be full polyphony support. Until now, you could only make very complex monophonic patches. With Multiphonics CV-3, polyphonic patches are finally possible. One of those, you can play these new polyphonic patches expressively with MPE.

New Multiphonics CV-3 Modules

The new version offers some new, exciting stuff on the module front. Multiphonics CV-3 will feature a new 3-operator FM oscillator module with four selectable algorithms. It also comes with two physical modeling acoustic object oscillators: Objeq and Tube.

Yes, finally! Physical modeling is finally available in the Multiphonics synth plugin. The Objeq oscillator brings Chromaphone’s exciting resonator engine into the modular world. It can reproduce the sound of various acoustic objects.

The Tube oscillator is a physical model of a cylindrical tube with a built-in exciter. Besides this, it ships with a new stack VCO with detuned sawtooth oscillators and different waveforms. There are also new filters, effects, and modulators.

A new comb filter module with selectable topology expands the physical modeling capabilities even further. AAS also added a new unique tube filter that reproduces the effect of an open or closed tube.

The modulator module arsenal includes a new flexible ADSR envelope with linear/exponential responses and a pluck envelope specially designed for percussive sounds. Other new additions are a patchable reverb processor and a handy oscilloscope module for signal visualization

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 also ships with 100 all-new synth and effects pedals that showcase the new modules.

First Impression

At first glance, this is an exciting update for the AAS Multiphonics CV-3 Synthesizer plugin. Of the new features, this update appeals to me the most so far because of the addition of the physical modeling oscillators and the polyphony, as it takes the plugin to Tassman 4 fields. I’m looking forward to checking out the new version.

AAS Multiphonics CV-3 is available now for $149 and $199 for the PACKS version with three sound packs. You can upgrade from CV-2 for $49 instead of $79 from your user account. It runs as a standalone and VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.

If you’ve pre-ordered Multiphonics CV‑3 or registered a new Multiphonics CV‑2 license after November 15, 2024, Multiphonics CV-3 is a free upgrade.
