Behringer Pro VS Mini 2.0 firmware is out now: a free update for its hybrid vector synth with up to 5 voices poly, new built-in FX, and more.

Just before Christmas, Behringer is super busy again. After releasing the long-awaited Wave (PPG clone) and the JT Mini (Mini Jupiter 8) synthesizers this week, Behringer has just unveiled another major release.

This time not a new product release, but a major free 2.0 update for the Behringer Pro VS Mini hybrid vector Synthesizer.

Behringer Pro VS Mini 2.0

The Behringer Pro VS Mini is a portable (4-voice) hybrid Synthesizer based on the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS vector Synthesizer. At its core are four vector morphing oscillators per voice, an analog lowpass filter, a 16-step sequencer, and an arpeggiator.

That was the previous feature set. With the free update 2.0, this has been updated significantly in the Behringer Pro VS Mini. The new update levels up the voices and adds another voice to it.

So, the Pro VS Mini now has five voices of polyphony, allowing you to play richer, more complex chords and harmonies. Since it is only one filter, it’s a 5-voice paraphonic synth.

Then, there are new effects. Previously, the Pro VS Mini had a built-in chorus. The new firmware 2.0 adds new ensemble and reverb effects to it that are tweakable with the knobs in the third row. There is more to explore.

Pro VS Mini 2.0 also ships with a new handy chord mode that lets you create instant harmonies by selecting from chord sets within the ARP menu and talking about the ARP. It also includes enhancements for the arpeggiator and a new hold mode.

Further, Behringer added portamento to the synth. Once activated, you can glide between notes to add a dynamic, expressive character to your playing.

An improved DCA model is also part of the Pro VS Mini 2.0 update. Behringer promises that it has a cleaner sound with more precise control over the volume dynamics. And lastly, you can play around with a fresh collection of presets from the sound designer website Ultimate Patches.

First Impression

A nice welcome update for the Pro VS Mini. Seeing what features Behringer can add to this small Synthesizer after its release is impressive. There seems to be more DSP inside than initially thought.

Behringer Pro VS Mini 2.0 firmware is free of charge and ready to download. The Pro VS Mini Synthesizer is available now for $99/95€.
