The experimental Inear Display plugins are back as pay-what-you-want incl. free downloads

SYNTH ANATOMY uses affiliation & partner programs (big red buttons) to finance a part of the activity. If you use these, you support the website. Thanks!

Inear Display, the creator of excellent experimental synth and FX plugins, is back and offers them at pay-what-you-want, with free downloads.

Every year, plugin developers come and go. In 2025, Thomas Hennebert, the founder of Inear Display and one-man developer of its excellent experimental plugins, left us. A developer I greatly admired, and I was all the more saddened by his closure.

No new plugin, but there’s great news: Inear Display has changed its mind and is back and put its own plugins on sale again as pay-what-you-want downloads. A free (0€) option is also available, but that wouldn’t be advisable.

Inear Display Pay-What-You-Want

It’s great to say that Thomas’s plugins are back. As a meminder, Thomas Hennebert is also the developer behind the crazy Glitchmachines plugins.

All Inear Display plugins are back and available for purchase on a pay-what-you-want basis, including free. Yes, you can also put a 0€ into the system and get them for free. A good deal for you, but less so for the developer.

To ensure the plugins continue to work in the future, they need to be maintained at a minimum. This costs money and time. To help finance it, it would be very commendable to leave some money with the developer so he can continue the project.

The plugins are great; maintenance updates are sufficient for me. The main thing is that they remain available and usable.

Inear Display’s catalog ranges from experimental synths and drum machines to original, unique multi-FX processors for macOS and Windows.

11 Original Plugins Are Back

You read it right. 11 Inear Display plugins are back. Bref is a random percussive synth plugin based on the Ephemere experimental drum synth.

Talking of Ephemere. It’s a wild glitch and noisy experimental drum synth plugin packed with randomization features.

Gorgon is a brutal, dirty distortion with comb filtering, FM ring modulation, and more. Then, LITOTE is a granular FX processor plugin with four simultaneously active engines using an XY pad. Demo video features the old UI and feature set.

Interstice is a unique dual-band delay that splits the signal into two bands (low/high) and processes them in unique ways.

Incipit is another delay plugin. Unlike Interstice, it offers three delays with pitch shifting, filtering, and modulation.

Well, there is another unique delay. Antagone is a glitch delay plugin with an output mangler, built-in distortion, and plenty of modulation. Enough with delays.

Lancinates is a drone Synthesizer using additive oscillators and a harmony engine with scales. Built-in filters and FX processors like delay and reverb let you push your sounds into atmospheric drones.

Further, Regressif is a dirty, multi-FX plugin with a multimode filter, distortion, sample-rate reduction, and bit-crushing. All this is again paired with modulation.

Another more distortion-like plugin is Cruelle, a combo FX plugin that combines filter and distortion, with plenty of audio-rate modulation.

The last Inear Display plugin that made a comeback is Amalgame, a 6-slot experimental multi-FX plugin with classic and crazy algorithms. Each of the FX is individually programmable and modulable.

First Impression

That’s excellent news! Thank you, Thomas, for changing your mind. The plugins are too good to be lost to oblivion.

Inear Display plugins are available now with a pay-what-you-want offer, including free on Gumroad. They run as VST3 and AU plugins on macOS (native Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows. Please make a donation to continue development.
