Mythoz Krazy Sandi Delay Lama brings back the legendary Tibetan monk voice Synthesizer to modern systems with new features as a free plugin.
A few Synthesizer plugins have achieved legendary status. One of them, however, is the quirky, free Delay Lama Synthesizer from AudioNerds from 2002. The synth was even recently featured in a Bad Gear episode.
Since the developer hasn’t maintained the free plugin for an extended period, it is either unusable or only partially functional on modern systems. Mythoz, a developer, has now revived the plugin under the name Krazy Sandi Delay Lama with extended features, for modern systems, and as a free download.
Mythoz Krazy Sandi Delay Lama
Krazy Sandi Delay Lama is a new free Synthesizer that brings back the legendary Tibetan monk vocal Synthesizer to modern systems. Mythoz Krazy Sandi Delay Lama is not a successor but is heavily inspired by the Audionerdz Delay Lama.
Like the original, it features classic formant synthesis that creates the hauntingly beautiful “Tibetan Monk” vocals, using a custom parallel formant filter engine that sweeps seamlessly across the A-E-I-O-U vowels.
The interactive XY pad control for real-time vowel and pitch shifts is also onboard, but in an extended form. It includes a new AEIOU Only mode for specialized vocal performances.
The original Delay Lama plugin offered limited shaping options, with only a handful of parameters. Mythos has significantly expanded the possibilities here, enabling all-new Monk sounds.
Deeper “Monk” Engine
You can use a switchable multimode filter with lowpass, highpass, and bandpass modes, each with adjustable cutoff frequency and resonance.
Then, you can work with two independent ADSR envelopes, one for the amplitude and another for the filter, for precise articulation. Alongside this, you can find three adjustable multi-wave LFOs with routings to the pitch, vowel, and filter.
Another addition is a professional-grade, syceable stereo delay with tweakable delay time, feedback, and dry/wet mix, giving depth and space to your sounds.
Mythoz Krazy Sandi Delay Lama also added a multimode arpeggiator and 16-step sequencer with per-step pitch transpose (-12 to +12 semitones), velocity, and hold/slide buttons for smooth, gliding legato lines.
There is also an adjustable swing, octave controls, and a custom loop endpoint. Neat: it now includes a glide (portamento) feature that lets you create smooth, ethereal pitch slides for authentic vocal expression.
More important than the new features is compatibility with modern systems, including full bidirectional MIDI CC support, which allows you to record the plugin parameters.
First Impression
The charm of the original plugin is somewhat lost, as much of it derives from its unique interface. The new one, on the other hand, looks very technical.
Nevertheless, it’s great that the sound is back and that you can do even more with it than before. Also positive that it’s a free download.
Mythoz Krazy Sandi Delay Lama is now available for free download. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS and Windows.
