Dennis Shaw has released a free editor plugin for macOS and Windows for the Roland AIRA Compact S-1 Tweak digital Synthesizer.
The Roland AIRA Compact S-1 is a small, great-sounding digital Synthesizer based on the Roland SH-101. While the synth has physical controls for the main features, many deeper shaping features are hidden behind menu diving.
An editor provides a solution. Momo Müller has offered one for some time now. Now there’s a free alternative. Dennis Shaw has released a free editor for the AIRA Compact S-1 Tweak Synthesizer.
Dennis Shaw Roland AIRA Compact S-1 Editor
The Roland AIRA Compact S-1 is a 4-voice polyphonic Synthesizer that emulates the Roland SH-101 using ACB technology and adds extra features.
The editor for the Roland Aira Compact S-1 is available via Dennis Shaw’s Google Drive. However, the developer states that the editor is currently in early beta and glitches or crashes may occur.
It gives you full access to all available parameters, including the oscillator, filter, LFO, amp, chord, effects, performance, and more.
The editor also simplifies the workflow with unique, hidden oscillator draw and chop functions, allowing you to cut waveforms into sections to create more harmonic timbres.
First Impression
It’s great that there’s now an alternative to the Momo Müller S-1 editor. It’s still in beta, but I’m sure these potential bugs will be fixed soon.
The Roland S-1 Editor by Dennis Shaw is available now as a free download for beta testing. It runs as a MIDI FX plugin on macOS. The Windows version is coming soon.
According to the developer, it is made with the free version of Cabbage that uses Csound, so the plugins are located in the “Cabbage” folder in your menu when you are looking for them.

Works not at my DAWs Ableton Live, Reason 13, Maschine 3.0 !
only works as a MIDI FX plugin. Not all the DAWs have MIDI FX plugin support.
on MacOS, I’ve installed Cabbage, but can’t find where this thing is installed anywhere
Same here. I installed it twice. I can’t find the plugin at all. I’ve searched by name, through folders, etc. Starting to wonder if we installed a virus….
Many DAWs like Ableton don’t support MIDI FX plugins
Yeah, I get that. I got as far as I could though: I downloaded Cabbage. Got it to open. Exported as a VST. Downloaded plugin buddy. Opened the VST in plugin Buddy in both Ableton and Maschine. Crashed both times, which is totally excusable for something like this. I’ll try again in the future. Maybe it’ll become more stable.
