DecadeBridge Rorschach is a new beginner-friendly patchable drone video Synthesizer made in collaboration with Lumatic Visual Devices.
I’ve reported on the British indie developer DecadeBridge several times in the past, especially about his small, hand-built drone synthesizers. He is breaking new ground with his new project and has brought reinforcements on board.
DecadeBridge Rorschach is a new drone noise/video Synthesizer developed in collaboration with UK-based video hardware developer Lumatic Visual Devices.
DecadeBridge Rorschach
Rorschach is a small, patchable Synthesizer that can generate drones/noise with matching visuals. It’s a hybrid between a drone synth and a monochrom video synth.
According to DecadeBridge and Lumatic Visual Devices, Rorschach is designed for live performances and is a perfect starting point for anyone wanting to take the jump into video synthesis.
The controls and layout are clear, functional, and immediate, says the developers. That’s correct, it’s very hands-on.
At its core, it’s an analog engine that generates video patterns. You can modify the width and height of those using four main controls. With the form parameters, you can select from one of 6 pattern generator patches.
Part of the engine is a fun, random section that lets the synth run free, generating patterns on the fly automatically. You can even leave it running whilst you play your music. So, a kind of accompaniment system, but not for audio but for visuals.
The dedicated random pot sets how much randomness is introduced into the four-position controls of each refresh.
Additionally, there are switches for various video functions: clear screen, random clear screen, no clear screen, and pattern color (white, black, invert).
DecadeBridge Rorschach is not just a video synth. It has an audio output that turns the video signal into a noisy drone synth voice.
Patching Fun
A highlight of this small video synth is its semi-modularity. You can easily extend its functionality by feeding CV/gates and audio into its inputs. To make this happen, the parameters have CV inputs, allowing you to modulate them with other gear.
For example, all four main controls have CV inputs, giving you the option to change the pattern generator automatically. You can also find gate inputs for each of the random parameters and a CV input for the random amount.
This neat analog addition allows the generation of very versatile automated visuals. As a bonus, you have a wild drone synth.
All this fun is powered by a 9V battery. Alternatively, you can power it off a 9V centre positive wall adapter
First Impression
An exciting new experimental synth. I like that the synth appeals to both drone/noise players and visual enthusiasts. You can make drones on the fly and even level them up with suitable visuals, without having to buy extra video hardware; I think that’s great.
DecadeBridge Rorschach is available now for an introductory price of 184,46€, down from 204,96€ until February 15, 2026. A DIY version is available for 142,04€ instead of 157,82€. You can get it from DecadeBridge’s Etsy store or Lumatic Visual Devices’ store.
