ADDAC System Mixology is a new dual-effect chain router with a built-in feedback designer that is expressively playable.
Many musicians have effect pedals at home, whether they’re Synthesizer players, guitarists, bassists, or even raw noise makers. You integrate them into your sound design process.
Creativity with pedals begins with tweaking the shiny knobs and extends to using an expression pedal for dynamic manipulation. The Portugal-based company ADDAC System has released the Mixology pedal, which takes this even further.
ADDAC System Mixology
The Mixology is a new dual-effect chain router with a built-in feedback designer and a host of control options.
Both the input and output stages of the ADDAC System Mixology have dedicated controls and two adjustable FX loops. This enables users to route inputs to the dry input signal, or the opposite return for advanced parallel, series, and inverted FX orders.
A neat feature is the FX knob in the middle, which lets you crossfade between FX1 and FX2. Just above is the dry/wet control, which also includes a crossfading function. In this case, it crossfades between the effects and the dry input signal.
The pedal then includes an exciting feedback section with two feedback loops. Depending on the routing, each FX return can feed back into its own or its opposite send, either individually or in series.
All this is not just manually programmable but also expressively playable. You can control the input gain, wet/dry balance, FX mix, and both feedback loops with an expressive pedal.
Developed For Expression
The expression inputs differ across features. In the wet/dry or FX Mix inputs, the expression pedal completely overrides the knob, making its position irrelevant.
For Input Gain, FX1, and FX2 Feedback, the knob sets the upper limit of the expression pedal’s range, allowing the user to control how strongly the pedal affects the parameter.
In live looping scenarios, Mixology is beneficial because it lets you record loops with or without effects, while still allowing you to apply the same chain of effects after the recorded loops, says ADDAC System.
Since you have two independent FX loops, you can have two different FX connected and seamlessly crossfade from one to the other without having to reconnect the effects order. That’s really convenient.
Not to forget is that the two integrated feedbackers also expand the sound spectrum in a raw, noisy, beautiful way. And the option to dynamically play with these parameters is a killer bonus.
First Impression
An intriguing utility pedal that can add some spice to your pedal setup. Especially interesting for more adventurous pedal users with a pronounced interest in experimental sound design.
ADDAC System Mixology is available soon for $329/220€ + VAT.
