Full FX Media Diffusia is a new free 6-voice virtual analog drone Synthesizer plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
There are hundreds of Synthesizer plugins. Many hundreds of them are available for free. But sometimes you stand in front of your virtual collection and you’re stuck because you’re missing that one crucial idea.
Perhaps the most basic element in music can help stimulate the creative part of your brain: a drone. You can do that with every synth. Full FX Media promises you can also do it with its new free drone synth, Diffusia.

Diffusia is an immersive drone Synthesizer for macOS, Linux, and Windows. According to Ful FX Media, Diffusia is designed for artists and sound designers seeking deep, evolving textures.
At its core is a polyphonic virtual analog engine with six voices. It is a very simple Synthesizer with three sections: Tone, Envelope, and Effects.
The Tone section features a multi-wave oscillator (sine, saw, pulse, etc.) with an unison function and a resonant multi-mode filter. It’s tweakable with classic cutoff and resonance controls.
It features a classic ADSR envelope with four parameters, providing complete control over the curve. I’ve barely started, and I’m already at the end of the signal chain. Here you’ll find a multi-effects processor with three effects.
It starts with a tremolo FX (drift), featuring rate and depth controls. Then, you can infuse a warm chorus in the sound to add depth and width. It has rate, depth, and mix parameters.
Lastly, it houses a lush reverb with decay and mix controls, making your drones sound very atmospheric. It ships with various presets to start right away. Since the synth is exceptionally straightforward, no presets are needed, and you can instantly dial in your own sounds.
First Impression
At first glance, Diffusia appears to be a nice, free Synthesizer plugin, but it’s nothing extraordinary or exciting. I think most free synthesizers can do that anyway. However, for those seeking the simplest way to generate drones, this is worth considering.
Full FX Media Diffusia is available for free download. It runs as a VST3 plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux and Windows.
