Dystopian Waves Auren is a new free dual-engine sequenceable spectral delay processor for Ableton Max for Live.
Delays are popular effects. High-quality delays can now be found in every DAW or even as free downloads. In addition to the usual types like tape or multi-tap, there are also more experimental forms like granular, spectral, or pitch shifting.
Dystopian Waves, the developers behind the free M4L glitch and stutter FX Drox, are back with another free M4L device called Auren, and you guessed right, it’s an experimental delay processor.
Dystopian Waves Auren
Auren is a new free Max for Live spectral delay device for Ableton Live. At Dystopian Waves, Auren’s core is a 20-band spectral delay engine, consisting of two independent delay taps.
Each delay tap can process an audio source independently, and both have flexible routing options. You can choose between two modes.
The Parallel mode uses one source for each delay tap, while the series mode (cascade) feeds the output to the first delay into the second tap. The latter gives you way more complex and evolving delay textures.
Things get even more exciting in the individual delay taps. Each one contains a customizable multi-band sequencer, where you can draw custom delay curves to achieve various interesting results, including smooth movements up to crazy randomized behaviours.
Each band also has a built-in spectral frequency shifter for advanced spectral manipulation, giving you different, fascinating results. Dystopian Waves Auren also includes a built-in reverb section for adding depth and space.
The new free spectral delay device is capable of creating a wide range of delay effects, ranging from dynamic effects to glitchy textures, up to evolving cinematic delays.
First Impression
Following the excellent Drox multi-FX device, the developers have gifted us another exciting FX device for Ableton Live. Don’t miss it if you are a Max for Live user.
Dystopian Waves Auren is available now as a free download with an option to donate. It requires Ableton Live Suite or Live Standard with a Max for Live license.
