Christophe Duquesne Loris Synth is a new standalone software that brings additive synthesis/resynthesis to the EaganMatrix engine.
In January, Christophe Duquesne of Haken Audio released Loris Synth, a new engine that brings expressive additive/resynthesis to EaganMatrix synths. Most of the EaganMatrix synths already support the new additional engine.
At SynthFest France 2025, Expressive E announced that Osmose will get Loris Synth support in May alongside other new features. Christophe gave me a demo of the new engine, also previewing the new overlays that will arrive for the Eagan Matrix editor, which simplifies sound design.

Dune 2 celebrated its international cinema premiere at the beginning of February 2024. It was a huge success. Once again, the movie featured the soundtrack from Hans Zimmer and his huge team of musicians, sound designers, and others. Two people from Expressive E were also in the US with the Osmose Synthesizer.
One of them was Christophe Duquesne, designer of the La Voix du Luthier hardware resonators and one of the developer of the EaganMatrix engine, which is also part of the Osmose synth. For the film, he developed the Loris Synth, a new fascinating additive synthesis engine with dedicated audio analysis software for the EaganMatrix. This is now also available for the public.
Christophe Duquesne Loris Synth
Loris Synth is a standalone audio analysis and resynthesis software for the EaganMatrix engine. What you can do with this software massively expands the sound spectrum of these synths.
Instead of classic virtual analog, FM, or physical modeling, Christophe Duquesne introduces with Loris Synth additive synthesis and resynthesis capabilities to the engine. It allows you to analyze an audio sample and extract all the necessary information to drive the built-in EaganMatrix additive bank.
Even if the results sound like heavily processed sampling in places, the sound was created purely through resynthesis. A big benefit is its complex ways of manipulating it further down to the last harmonics/partials. Something that is not possible with a classic sample.
Important: The software is useless without the following products: Continuum, ContinuuMini, EaganMatrix Module, EaganMatrix Micro, or Osmose. You need one of these to make the sounds playable later.
According to Christophe Duquesne, the EaganMatrix must run the 10.44 firmware and up to comply with all the Loris Synth features. Expressive Osmose will, however, not receive the firmware update until the first trimester of 2025. If you own an Osmose, you still have to have a little patience.
First Impression
That is the right moment to explore the Osmose Synthesizer. Since the end of the year, I have had an Osmose in the studio to test. I am excited to test this engine because it opens up the sound spectrum even more new directions. I hope that we will also soon get the new EaganMatrix editor, which makes patch-building easier
Christophe Duquesne Loris Synth is available now for $89,99 for macOS on the Apple Mac app store. It requires macOS 12 or higher.
