UnplugRed Magic Carpet is a free, straightforward atmospheric delay plugin with a fun noise mode for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
VST plugins are usually sold in in-house shops or at retailers. However, more and more developers, especially small indie developers, are relying on platforms like Patreon. Instead of buying the plugins, they offer them to supporters as a goodie. Analog Obsession is a developer that has had great success with this.
Another developer is UnplugRed, which offers various plugins on Patreon as free and paid versions. His latest development, Magic Carpet, a new delay plugin, is also again available in free and paid versions.
UnplugRed Magic Carpet
Magic Carpet is a new, free, easy-to-use delay plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows. It uses three independently tweakable delay lines with a shared feedback path.
In the minimum settings, the delay sounds very subtle. The more you turn up the feedback, the denser and sonic-rich it becomes. The result is a very full-sounding delay with not a lot of gaps, says UnplugRed.
Additionally, you can enable a noise mode via the right-click menu. Once activated, it raises the feedback to unstable levels, giving you noisy delays. You have to be careful with the levels here.
Further, the upper right side has a random function, giving you a new delay setting with every press. Like the lovely noise mode, you can also find the option to scale the UnplugRed Magic Carpet GUI to different sizes in the right-click menu.
UnplugRed ships the free version of Magic Carpet with a rotating supporter banner in the user interface. If you don’t want to see this, you have to support the developer via Patreon to get the paid version.
First Impression
I downloaded it straight away to test it out. Magic Carpet is a very feature-reduced but nice-sounding free delay plugin. The noise mode is very unpredictable, but it’s fun to experiment.
UnplugRed Magic Carpet is free downloadable and runs as a VST3, AU, and CLAP plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel), Linux, and Windows. The paid version without the banner is available via Patreon with a supporter tier of 10,50€.
