Virtual analog, FM, wavetable… nowadays there’s a free alternative to almost every commercial Synthesizer. Most of the concepts are familiar and repetitive. But today, a new developer is offering something completely different.

LaunchCodes is a new free Synthesizer plugin for macOS and Windows designed for explosive hits and basses.
The engine of the Armory Plugins LaunchCodes is a classic oscillator with four basic wave types. Alongside four waves, it has fully automatable amp and pitch ADSR envelopes and four pitch parameters.
Then, you add a noise generator with a built-in multimode filter (low, high, and band-pass) with adjustable Q. This also has two ADSR envelopes (amp and filter) with various modes and coarse control.
The signals can be elevated to explosive, epic levels with a flexible re-orderable multi-FX processor. It includes a syceable delay unit with feedback, a reverb for huge clouds, and a dual filter with independent cutoff and resonance.
That’s not all. There is also a fully-editable waveshaper, allowing you to create rich distortions.
While the oscillator and noise have their own envelopes, you can also work with two multi-wave LFOs, with which you can modulate almost any parameter in LaunchCodes. And there is a big red button that you shouldn’t press, or should you?
Armory Plugins LaunchCodes ships with various presets to get you going right away. A built-in browser lets you save your presets and browse through your favorites.
The developer promises that you can craft punshy basses, psychedelic patterns, mysterious weeps, screaming noises and more with the plugin.
First Impression
At first glance, a fun sound design plugin that can create useful effect sounds. Since it’s based on synthesis, you can spend a lot of time building your favorite effects. Certainly better than scrolling through a huge sample list.
Armory Plugins LaunchCodes is available now as a free download. It runs as a VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
