Klevgrand Elpiano is a new electric piano plugin for macOS and Windows, featuring 10 newly crafted algorithmic e-piano models.

Electric pianos are an integral part of modern music productions. Many hardware and software electric pianos today use multi-samples as their basis. However, exceptions exist, such as the AAS Lounge Lizard EP-4 or the Pianoteq plugins.

Now, the Swedish developers from Klevgrand are also entering the algorithmic electric piano market with the new Elpiano plugin.

Klevgrand Elpiano

Elpiano is a new electric piano plugin for macOS and Windows. At its core, Klevrand Elpiano uses a newly developed proprietary algorithm to model 10 distinct pianos. At around 200MB, the plugin is significantly smaller and lightweight than common electric piano sample libraries for Kontakt, etc.

The new Elpiano plugin lets you switch between 10 different e-piano models. According to Klevrand, each model is carefully handcrafted and tweaked: “a lot of time has been spent on creating a workflow experience that is both simple and inspiring“.

One plugin 10 electric piano models:

  • Skyline – A clean, responsive, perfectly-tuned, and finely adjusted electric piano
  • Gotown – An alternative to the Skyline model, but it has a slightly grittier take.
  • Precious – Like Gotown, but with a softer, gentler tone and response.
  • Silky Way – Skyline with less bite and pairs perfectly with both phaser and chorus for those smooth ballads.
  • Whirl – Loads of bark, loads of funk.
  • Unicorny – A true “barn find” – as if you’ve discovered an old electric piano in the attic of a long-lost relative. A little worn, a little rough around the edges, but with a heart of gold.
  • Picky – Bright and percussive with a short release.
  • Arbor – Slightly harp-like with a very short release. Doesn’t really sound like a piano – or maybe like a heavily modified one.
  • Digilog FM – FM piano, evoking both 80’s hits and early video games.
  • Unsound – Broken pickups and faulty electronics – “Need Service “

Each model can be adjusted with a built-in vintage-flavored EQ with bass and treble controls. A drive control and a cabinet effect with five different models and mono- and stereo-configurations add extra character.

Further, you can refine your electric piano sounds with different, fully tweakable, colorful effects: six reverb types, six room types, delay, chorus, phaser, tremolo, and vibrato. To get it started, Klevgrand Elpiano includes 50 ready-to-use presets.

First Impression

At first look, it’s a beautiful-sounding, expressive, playable electric piano plugin. It’s a shame that the engine isn’t open to musicians and is limited to preset models. So, it doesn’t go as deep as the Pianoteq or AAS Louneg Lizard EP-4. Maybe there will be more tweaking options in the future.

Klevgrand Elpiano is available now for an introductory price of $99,99 instead of $149,99. It runs as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
