NAMM 2025: Soundtoys Space Blender, aka Imaginary Space Machine, is a new atmospheric algorithmic reverb for macOS and Windows with a unique feature set.
Soundtoys makes excellent, high-quality effect plugins. However, they are not known for releasing plugins like on an assembly line. The most recent is Superlate, which was released in 2023, and there hasn’t been a new plugin since then.
At NAMM 2025, Soundtoys unveiled Space Blender for the first time, a new intriguing reverb that is still in development.
Soundtoys Space Blender
Space Blender is a new reverb plugin for macOS and Windows. However, it is not more of the same. Soundtoys describes it as an alternative type of reverb or also as an imaginary space machine.
Soundtoys Space Blender creates its reverb with much delay but without feedback. It doesn’t constantly feedback on itself, so there is no building up like in traditional delays or reverbs. It’s an algorithmic reverb without any convolution techniques.
The path you take to create the reverb is exciting. First, you can make the reverb shapes with your mouse by drawing a dot from the left to the right. The whole thing is very nicely visualized with a real-time waveform of it.
Another unique characteristic of Space Blender is its definitive start and endpoints. It also has a fade-in parameter instead of a pre-delay. These features, along with the concept of no feedback, allow you to create massive ambient reverb textures and washes without plastering the whole mix.
The plugin is pretty simple from the user interface. It offers five knobs: a syncable time, color, texture, mod, and mixer, plus a freeze button. A wrap function introduces classic tape delay and pitch-shifting effects. It is unknown whether there is an advanced panel like the other Soundtoys plugins.
Soundtoys Blender is capable of creating a wide range of reverbs. In the linked Sonicstate video, you can hear that they go very into the atmospheric, ambient field. They range from non-linear style reverb to gated-esque to unique stuttery effects and epic soundscapes with just a few clicks.
Mitch Thomas said it will be part of the Soundtoys Effect Rack plugin family.
First Impression
An intruiging new reverb from Soundtoys. In terms of sound, I haven’t heard anything revolutionary that I can’t do with effects. I’m, however, curious to test the plugin and see how versatile it is. I like how it works and how it’s structured.
Soundtoys Space Blender availability and price TBA.
