NAMM 2025: Noise Engineering Batverb brings Desmodus Versio’s synthetic tail generator algorithm with distortion, delay, and reverb to a standalone stereo effect pedal.
In 2024, Noise Engineering embarked on a new adventure. After fascinating, experimental-flavored Eurorack modules and plugins, they also develop effects pedals. A logical step: DSP algorithms also fit into pedals. Dystorpia, a futuristic distortion pedal, premiered last year.
At NAMM 2025, Noise Engineering unveiled Batverb, a new multi-FX processor powered by the atmospheric Desmodus Versio module algorithm.
Noise Engineering Batverb
Batverb is a synthetic tail generator that packs the Desmodus Versio algorithm into a new standalone stereo pedal.
The engine’s core consists of many delays that interact in complicated ways to create atmospheric sounds. The time control parameter sets the general time of all delays.
Then, you have two granular pitch shifters in the feedback loop. One creates shimmering effects with octaves up, while the other gives you octaves down. You can mix both as you like to achieve exciting pitch shifting.
Underneath, you can spread out the tapping sound and add various degrees of diffusion for more atmospheric sounds.
A highlight of the Noise Engineering Batverb is the built-in distortion effect that adds grid and crunchiness to your sounds. There are two modes: one only affects the wet sounds, while the other manipulates both signals.
Batverb also features a ducking functionality and an adjustable parameter that can be played with an expression pedal.
It has footswitches; one of them holds the reverberation tank, giving you endless sounds and talking about drones. According to Noise Engineering, the ability to hold sounds indefinitely is one of the strengths of the Batverb.
On the connection side, it has stereo I/O on four 6.3mm mono sockets, a power supply input, an expression pedal input, and MIDI in/out support.
First Impression
An excellent news from Noise Engineering. I bought the Desmodus Versio many years ago because of the unique Batverb algorithm. It sounds epic on synth sounds, and I still use it. Now, to see it as a standalone stereo stompbox is very exciting.
Noise Engineering Batverb will be available in March 2025. Price TBA.
