BlaknBlu Foxtrot Duo is a new mono/stereo filter with three iconic filter types in a new 10HP module.
In April, I reported on the exciting quad analog filter Foxtrot from the British company BlaknBlu. Its unique feature is that you have three iconic filters in one module but in a quadruple layout. But with 38HP, it is also a large module.
With the Foxtrot Duo, BlaknBlu has now published a stereo-channel version of this filter monster. With the same feature set and filtering fun.
BlaknBlu Foxtrot Duo
Foxtrot Duo is a new 10HP stereo digital filter for Eurorack. BlaknBlu states it’s a single-channel version of its Foxtrot quad stereo filter. You can use it in mono or in stereo mode.
Like the bigger brother, Foxtrot Duo’s unique feature is its multi-type characteristic. It hosts three switchable iconic filter types in a single module.
First, it has a ladder filter modeled after the classic Moog designs from the ’60s and ’70s. Then, you can find a characterful Sallen-and-Key filter that was found in the Korg 35 module and MS-20. The third and last is a state-variable filter based on the Oberheim SEM Synthesizer.
This gives you many sound-shaping options in a stereo filter, from soft to aggressive. Each filter type offers morphable lowpass, bandpass, and highpass responses. You can morph it manually or with CV.
Besides the morphing knob, BlaknBlu Foxtrot Duo also has classic controls like cutoff and resonance. In stereo mode, you can also a pan setting that controls the cutoff frequencies of the two filters separately.
So, a positive CV raises the cutoff of one filter while the other lowers, and vice versa, giving you a frequency-based pan. The boost function is a neat addition which allows you to overdrive the filters.
On the connection side, you have a stereo input and output on two inputs each. The layout of the inputs and outputs is a bit odd. Inputs are at the top; outputs are in the middle.
Further, you have a switchable AUX CV input, allowing CV control of the filter response, resonance, or, in mono mode, of the pan of the dual outputs.
There is no dedicated demo for the BlaknBlu Foxtrot Duo , but the Quad version should be sonically identical.
First Impression
It’s nice to see that there is now a single version of the Foxtrot quad filter as it takes up less space in the rack but has just as many options with its three filter types.
BlaknBlu Foxtrot Duo is available now for 257.36€ + shipping + VAT.

for note:
the foxtrot filter are analogue modeled digital filters, blak n blue support wrote me that
ah okay, I always thought their are analog. Thanks!
