BlaknBlu Foxtrot is a new quad analog filter (VCF) module with three classic filter types (Moog/Korg/Oberheim) and linking options.

Filters belong to synthesizers like tomato sauce goes to pizza. They are the key ingredient of every good Synthesizer. There are exceptions, see West Coast synths. Many of them are legendary today and have massively influenced instruments and sounds of the last few decades.

This is mainly due to the different designs which colors and shapes the sounds differently depending on its circuit. BlaknBlue, a new Eurorack company, unveiled the Foxtrot module, a quad filter that brings three classic filters together.

Foxtrot is a new 38HP quad analog multimode filter for Eurorack. The highlight of this new quad filter is its design.

Unlike other quad filters, Foxtrot offers three legendary filter designs in a module to choose from Moog Ladder, Korg-style Sallen-and-Key and Oberheim state variable.

All three are multimide filters and are continously variable from band pass, through lowpass to highpass. Additionally, you can achieve a notch filter by setting the filter response half way between lowpass and highpass.

The ability to change the filter model for each slot also makes it a mighty quad filter. This means you can have a quad Moog/Korg/Oberheim filter or a mixture of three. Then, any or all of the four filters can be linked in parallel

Then, you can link any or all of the four filters in parallel for additional filtering results, including formant or resonator-style effects. The developer promises you can mimic of the resonator of the Korg PS-3300.

Each of the four filters also features a two input mixer for the audio signal so you can use them as independent filter. There is also a two cutoff CV inputs with mixing and an AUX CV input, controlling either the sweep (BP/LP/HP), resonance, or the pan of the two outputs.

Further, there is an overdrive in each filter for additional juice. The Foxtrot is not sold explicitly for stereo applications. Since each filter has two inputs and outputs and a CV-controllable pan option, I assume that stereo is also possible.

First Impression

A lovely new quad filter. I really like that you have three different filter designs in one module that you can combine in different ways. However, at 38HP it is very large and less made for small setups.

BlaknBlu Foxtrot is available now for £399.00 incl. VAT and delivery.
