Surreal Machines enters the iOS market with AUv3 plugin versions of its Dub Machines Modnetic, and Diffuse delay reverb desktop plugins.
In recent years, many VST plugin developers have taken steps towards iOS. AudioThing, FabFilter, Eventide, and many others now offer their plugins as AUv3 plugins. Even Trash (3) from iZotope by Native Instruments is available for the mobile platform.
The introduction of the AUv3 format has made things much easier for developers. With Surreal Machines, I’m happy to welcome another initial VST developer on iOS. The first two releases are iOS ports of its Dub Machines plugins.
Surreal Machines iOS Dub Machines
Modnetic and Diffuse, both plugins of the Dub Machines series, are the first Surreal Machines AUv3 plugins for iOS.
Modnetic is an advanced, authentic emulation of classic analog tape delay hardware from the 1970’s. It’s not just an emulation, it also has intriguing digital twists, not possible on the original hardware.
The plugin comprises six fully tweakable sections: character, modulation, echo, reverb, routing, and mix. It gives you the choice of various realistic spring reverbs and modulation FX, including budget brigade chorus/flanger/phaser and a classic tone.
In addition, you get nifty digital options like clickless real-time routing of the different FX blocks, a reverse tape, and classic digital phasers.
Then, Diffuse is another new delay and reverb AUv3 plugin for iOS. Classic hardware units from the 1970s and 1980s inspire this second Dub Machines FX.
In detail, it hosts an analog-modeled delay fused with a classic reverb design used in early digital units. A highlight is the ability to morph between delays and reverbs, giving you unique delay-verb effects. Surreal Machines says you’ll find plenty of nonlinearities and smooth tape-style delay changes.
Unlike Modnetic, Diffuse is a much simpler AUv3 plugin with full control over the reverb smearing, echoes, and damping.
First Impression
Two excellent new delay/reverb plugins for iOS AUv3. I’m happy to see that these FX are now available for iOS.
The Surreal Machines iOS versions of Dub Machines Modnetic ($5,99/6,99€) and Diffuse ($4,99/5,99€) are available now on the Apple AppStore. They run as standalone and AUv3 plugins on iPad and iPhone. MacOS and Windows versions are available as separate purchases.
