Humble Bundle is a popular deal platform for gamers. Here, you can buy many games as a bundle for low prices. Plus, you support the charity at the same time. The platform is also becoming more and more interesting for audio plugins. There have been excellent deals on Cherry Audio or AAS plugins.
Now, the sound design specialist company Krotos has teamed up with Humble Bundle. Among other things, both Concept synths are available for 1€.
Krotos Concept 2 Simple Concept
Both plugins are part of the Krotos SFX & Plugins for Sound Design bundle and are available on Humble Bundle. For the lowest tier (1€), you get Concept 2 and Simple Concept synthesizers. Pay the maximum of 23,09€, and you get 61,5GB of sound content and a 3-month subscription to Krotos Studio 3 on top. The best deal to me is probably the first tier with both synths here for just 1€.
Concept 2
Concept 2 is a multi-engine Synthesizer plugin featuring virtual analog, FM, and sample-granular synthesis. The latter was introduced in version 2 in 2021. Many filters support these, including classics like ladder filters (low/high/bandpass) with drive and more exotic ones like formant. They are available in the FX rack, giving you up to four filters in series or parallel.
On the modulation side, you can work with traditional LFOs and envelopes mappable via simple drag-n-drop. With Concept 2, Krotos also introduces some less-common modulation sources, including audio input, a new advanced shape modulator, aka complex LFO/envelope, or an X/Y performance capture pad.
To refine your sounds, Concept 2 features a 3-slot pedal board-style effects processor with ten effects to choose from, including convolution reverb with a wide range of IRs, delay, flanger/chorus, filter, EQ, ring mod, limiter, transient shaper, and compressors. Nice, you can also modulate the parameters of each effect processor.
Other goodies are a smart patch randomizer called “Tweak It, a dark/light GUI option, active/inactive states in oscillator and FX rack UI’s, and more.
Simple Concept 2
As the name suggests, Simple Concept 2 is the stripped-down version of Concept 2. It’s an interactive and easy-to-use softsynth powered by Krotos’s Concept synth engine, wrapped into a compact interface.
Every patch only has seven controls (three macros & ADSR envelope). With these, you can edit your sounds quickly and effortlessly without a steep learning curve.
The synth ships with 80 tweakable presets. Alternatively, you can use the smart random function to create infinite preset variations with a single click.
Deal?
Both synths for 1€ is a very good deal. However, there is a catch for macOS users. Both synths have not been updated to native Apple Silicon, which is a shame. This means they only run under Rosetta 2 on M-based Macs. But I hope that the developers will catch up. If not, it’s probably a sign that the synth was not a success and is, therefore, no longer maintained.
