Erica Synths has released a new gorgeous-looking, instant-sold-out, BLACK Limited Edition of its Perkons HD-01 drum Synthesizer.
Update: Interest in the limited version of the Erica Synths Perkons HD-01 was huge. It sold out in less than an hour. There’s no need to be sad; black is coming back soon.
Last weekend, Erica Synths was an exhibitor at the London Synth & Pedal expo. Girts Ozolins confirmed with Nick from Sonicstate that a regular Perkons HD-01 will soon be available in black. “You can have any color as long as it’s black, he said.
According to Girts, they had major production issues with the original “Jet fighter cockpit blue color” of the Perkons HD-01. To avoid future problems, they switch to a classy black finish. Plus, there was a popular demand for a black version.
Girts said that the Perkons HD-01 will be available in the new black finish in roughly three weeks for the same price as the original. And he promised tons of new Erica Synths releases for Superbooth 24.

One of the most exciting and fat-sounding drum synthesizers/drum machines of recent years is the Perkons HD-01 from Erica Synths. Thanks to the flexible engine and clever sequencing with modulation, it’s a drum synth, drum machine, and drone synth in one instrument.
The Perkons has a massive sound. But this is not the only striking aspect; its color is also unique. Girts Ozolins’ team chose a turquoise finish that immediately catches the eye when you enter the studio. However, it is a problem for lovers of black devices. Good news: the Perkons HD-01 is now available in a Black Limited Edition. The bad news: it’s already sold out.

That happened extremely quickly. Released this afternoon, all units were sold out in no time. That’s called a success. Ok, you have to say there were only 20 units of this gem. But it’s a sign that many people want a black version of the Perkons HD-01 drum Synthesizer.
The new Perkons HD-01 Black Limited Edition features all-new sleek black finish and side panels crafted from handpicked wood and meticulously engraved using the mesmerizing Lichtenburg burning method.
According to Erica Synths, this technique involves applying high-voltage electricity to the wood’s surface, resulting in striking patterns reminiscent of lightning strikes. The new side panels have been hand-made by Sandis Vāgners in the deep woods of Latvia.
So, it is a very special Boutique-style version of the Perkons. So, one can probably hope that Erica Synths makes another batch of it or releases a simple black version in the future.
Features
On the engine side, it’s the same Synthesizer as the regular Perkons HD-01: 4 hybrid voices (digital oscillators, analog multimode filter with overdrive), 8 controls per voice, master FX send and return, built-in BBD emulation, compressor, 4-track sequencer, and more.
There is no dedicated video for the Black version. Here is a video that shows firmware 1.1, which allows you to play chromatically in the synth.
First Impression
A stunning version of the Perkons HD-01. I would like to have it in my studio. I hope that Erica Synths releases a regular black version because I’m sure it would attract even more people than the turquoise version.
Erica Synths Perkons HD-01 Black Limited Edition was available for 1800€ + VAT + shipping in a single batch of 20 units. The regular Perkons HD-01 is available now for 1965€.

now that’s a good lookin desktop. no stupid 8 color LEDS, all knobs and buttons tastefully muted and the same through out.
Now, that is a good looking machine. I don’t personally care for the color of the standard edition, but this looks great!
Personally, I think the light blue is more interesting. Looks like a vintage-style piece of equipment like a Swarmatron or Lyra but I get the Erica brand of black on black on black look. In the synth world, however, 99% of everything is black. But it’s just paint.
But, maybe now I want a cream one to look goos with my Syntrx.
