Noise Lab Wrinkler MKII is the second generation of its Buchla/Serge-style wavefolder module with new features, making richer folding results.

In 2020, the developer journey of Noise Lab from Sweden began. It started with six all-analog Eurorack modules in a striking red and black finish. Reviews of the Prime Mover oscillator and Wrinkler wavefolder are available on the site with sound demos.

The latter, the Wrinkler wavefolder, just got a makeover in a new MK2 version with an all-new front panel design and more features.

Noise Lab Wrinkler MKII

Wrinkler MKII is a further development and the successor of the Mk1 version from 2020. According to Noise Lab, it hosts an extended circuit design with new features and enhancements.

The core is an analog wavefolder inspired by the pioneering works of Don Buchla and Serge Tcherepnin. It’s not a 1 to 1 clone/replica but an own take with various twists.

Like the Wrinkler MKI, it offers controls for fold, gain, and the dry signal. Besides a new symmetry control, a new exciting addition is three distinct input options capable of folding square waves. This new In Filter feature adds an extra timbre to any waveform. It works particularly well with square and pulse waves.

Then, it includes three folding options, giving you various harmonic-rich results, each with a different flavor. There is also a new feedback control, adding another way to shape your waveforms. It can create harsher sounds, including hard sync, or multi-sawtooths.

Also, the Wrinkler MKII’s I/O section benefits from a major upgrade. It now features an independent CV input for the gain control that makes the folder more flexible, resulting in amp mod effects (ring mod). You can also use it as a VCA.  The main controls folder and symmetry are CV controllable using the three inputs.

Noise Lab Wirinkler MK1 Sound Demo

There is currently no sound demo of the MKII version. I linked my MKI demo, even though the new one is significantly more powerful and versatile.

First Impression

Wrinkler Mk1 was a very classic, great-sounding wave folder; however, it had a limited feature set. The Mk2 is a nice upgrade that builds on this and continues the module—looking forward to hearing it in demos.

Noise Lab Wrinkler MKII is available now for 280€ (MSRP).
