Throughout November 2023, Soundtoys is giving away its Little Plate reverb plugin (mac/win), regularly $99, as a free download.
In May, Soundtoys released SuperPlate, a flexible plate reverb with various modeled types and unique sonic shapers. It was their first plugin in many years. But plate reverb is not a new topic for the developers. The LittlePlate is a very successful, simple plate reverb from the same dev team.
So minimal and straightforward from the control side, it could be described as a one-tick pony-like plate reverb. But it’s definitely more than this. Today, great news from Soundtoys. In November, you can get the excellent Little Plate as a free download.
Soundtoys Little Plate
Little Plate is a plate reverb plugin inspired by the original EMT 140. According to Soundtoys, they captured the gorgeous sound and vibe of this studio classic and turned it into a fun and musically inspiring plugin. But it also has additional functionality, making it a Soundtoys plugin.
This twist can be found in the reverberation time. Unlike the original (5 seconds), Soundtoys pushed that number in new areas by adding new decay time options. Besides the classic ones, you get 8, 16, 32, up to infinity.
With the decay time set to infinity, Little Plate’s reverb tails never fade away, giving you very atmospheric, endless reverb timbres. Then, you get a low cut knob that tames the boomy bass frequencies in the generated reverbs.
Another feature is the mod switch that introduces slight modulation into the reverb tail. These subtle and chaotic variations can result in a thicker and smoother sound.
Little Plate ships with 25 presets to quickly dial in a sound.
First Impression
A no-brainer deal that no one should miss. Little Plate is an awesome plate reverb plugin that you should have in your DAW.
Soundtoys Little Plate reverb plugin is a free download (regularly $99) throughout November 2023. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows. It requires a free software iLok account for registration.
