Roland Cloud has updated the JX-3P to v2 with a new ACB circuit mod, high-definition resizable GUI, and sound browser.
Over the last six months, Roland Cloud has updated its legendary plugin series step by step to version 2. The Juno-60 plugin received the update at the end of September. New v2 features include new interactive interfaces, a deeper ACB engine, and more.
Today, very surprisingly, another plugin was updated. This without an official press release. A Facebook post brought it to my attention.
Roland Cloud JX-3P v2
The JX-3P v2 remains in most areas the same authentic recreation of the iconic JX-3P analog Synthesizer. 8 voices, two DCO-style oscillators, lowpass filter with resonance, highpass without res, two envelopes, LFO, and built-in effects.
In v2, Roland expands and improves its JX-3P emulation. In the new mod shop section, you can find the circuit function. This allows you to intervene in the ACB emulation and make it sound even more like the original. The new Circuit Mod function lets you sweep through multiple trims using a single macro control.
Along with the new Condition parameter, which simulates the effects of aging, you can dial in everything from a factory-primed instrument to a road-worn synth that hasn’t seen a tech bench in decades. So out of spec, like out of tune, wobbly, etc. Perfect for crafting your favorite JX-3P emulations with the behavior like an original. The plug-out version also benefits from this new feature.
New Interactive Interface
Then, there is something for the eye. Version 2 introduces a new high-definition, resizable interface. The arrangement of the parameters has changed slightly, especially the virtual PG 200 programmer now looks like the hardware.
The new interface also includes a new sound browser that improves the workflow. In this, you can easily search/select sounds and tweak them using different macros: cutoff, resonance, level, attack, decay, sustain, release, delay/chorus, and reverb.
The rest of the features stay the same:
- all the original JX-3P patches plus new sounds for contemporary music
- extended parameters, advanced arpeggiator, onboard effects, and more
- original JX-3P chorus, plus reverb, flanger, delay, overdrive, and more
- adjustable polyphony, selectable from two to eight notes
There is no demo of the new version.
First Impression
A nice update for the JP-3P v2 plugin. Thumbs up that it’s free for existing users.
Roland Cloud JX-3P v2 is available now for $199 as a lifetime key purchase or as a part of the Roland Cloud Ultimate subscription. The new v2 is a free update for existing users.
It runs on macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin. It also works as a plug-out for the SYSTEM-8 hardware synth.
