NAMM 2023: Modbap Modular has introduced Meridian, a new mixable dual multimode filter module for Eurorack with colorful sonic extras.
And the next NAMM 2023 news. As a reminder it doesn’t start until tomorrow, but the tree of news is already burning. And of course, there will also be a lot of news in the Eurorack area. Even if I think that Superbooth 23 will be the event for the module news.
The young Eurorack company Modbap Modular has added another exciting module to its constantly growing portfolio. Meridian is a very unique mixable dual multimode filter with neat and colorful extras.
Modbap Modular Meridian
Meridian is a new 14HP dual multimode filter for Eurorack. On each side, you can choose between 4 different filter types and modes. The types include ladder, OTA, comb, and vocal formant, while the modes give you lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and notch per side. This gives you various ways to filter and reshape your source material into new timbres.
The module’s two filters, each have independently adjustable cutoff, resonance, and contour parameters. The PrimeFreq control is the center macro control of both filters in tandem. Meridian boasts a dynamic control feature a lowpass gate styled ‘Ping’ using the Ping input.
Additionally, the filter permits the selection of serial or parallel routing configurations. It is capable of functioning as either a stereo system or two independent mono channels with the press of a button.
Meridian represents the idea of a meeting point or a convergence of different elements. Filters are often used to blend, shape, and refine different sounds into a cohesive whole. Meridian is often represented through the idea of a barrier or a line that separates parts. This concept mirrors the way the filter delineates different frequencies and aural elements, generating a defined contrast that shapes the overall sound.
Further, you can shape the Meridian timbre by applying two distinct effects: phaser shifter and drive. All the key features can be modulated via CV inputs. For instance, synchronization to tempo can be achieved with the clock input, allowing for clock synchronized Phase Shifting.
First Impression
An exciting new Eurorack dual filter for the NAMM 2023. Very interesting is the possibility to select a completely different filter type on each side, which allows you to create your very unique filter timbres. In addition, the two effects bring some extra color into play. Lovely release.
