Spitfire Audio’s latest free LABS virtual instrument expansions let you explore vintage keys and classic synths sounds.
Spitfire Audio entered the free plugin business with the LABS series back in 2018. And how. Since the first release, countless fantastic free extensions have been added that cover a wide range of sounds.
Each new title comes with a few high-quality sounds that can be modified with minimal parameters, unlike what you know from large epic virtual instruments. Often less is more. There are two very exciting free LABS expansions to discover in March and April: Vintage Keys and Classic Synths.
Spitfire Audio LABS Vintage Keys
LABS Vintage Keys is the latest free LABS expansion released for April. As the name suggests, this is all about vintage keys sounds. Spitfire Audio says:
Warm, gritty, and spirited — this electric piano is an undisputed classic. Sampled from a rare Fender Rhodes model Seventy Three, explore four timeless presets, ranging from mellow and soulful to raspy and overdriven.
Spitfire Audio LABS Classic Synths
Upsi, sorry, I almost forgot to cover the march free LABS expansion. Good that March has 31 days. It’s called LABS Classic Synths, and you get what the name says. The library is packed with multi-sampled sounds from vintage synths.
A versatile toolbox of rare and iconic vintage synths, including a MOOG Minimoog, ARP Quadra, Sequential Pro-One and a Roland Juno 60. Explore a range of unstable, wave-like pads, characterful bass sounds, and short, noisy plucks — all tweak-able with onboard filter and reverb controls.
First Impression
Two high-quality extensions for the LABS series. These are not the most versatile virtual instruments, but users get original, newly crafted sounds in pristine quality for free.
Spitfire Audio LABS Vintage Keys and Classic Synths are available now as a free download. It runs in the free Spitfire Audio app as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS and Windows.
