GEOsynths has published Obsession Vol 1, a library featuring 128 new sounds for the Oberheim OB-X8 analog polyphonic Synthesizer.
One of the synthesizer highlights of 2022 was definitely the Oberheim OB-X8. The first Oberheim analog polyphonic Synthesizer in a very long time, but also the first Oberheim under the leadership of Focusrite. But important: developed by Tom Oberheim, Dave Smith, and the Sequential team.
At the end of the year, I had the OB-X8 in the studio for a short time to test. A fantastic-sounding Synthesizer. A review is coming soon on the website. What struck me was that there weren’t so many new sounds in the factory Library. There were a lot of vintage sounds from vintage Oberheim synths.
But don’t worry, there are third-party sound designers who have created new sounds for you. For example, GEOSynths has recently released a new bank of sounds for the OB-X8.
Geosynths Obsession Vol 1
Obsession Vol 1 is a new patch library for Oberheim’s first analog polysynth in many years, the OB-X8. It ships with 128 new patches. Alongside lovely classic sounds, the designer focused on creating new sounds for it.
According to Jamie Morden (GEOSynths), the sounds range from evolving pads & strings to cutting bass & leads, huge polysynths and bells, to Arp’s & FX, plus much more. And there are also 128 FX presets:
Now, of course there are no FX built in and I know some say it doesn’t need it, however I have also made 128 FX Presets, which I also made for the Prophet 5, so you’ll be able to reproduce exactly how they sound in the Videos.
The purchase of the Oberheim OB-X8 was also a special moment for GEOSynths. He shares this with the words:
Hot Damn…That was Fun making these Patches :), I must admit, i was like a Kid at Christmas when I was waiting for my OB-X8 to arrive. I’ve never had an Oberheim before or even touched one, so was full of excitement and anticipation for when it came!
