Sean Costello of ValhallaDSP gave the music producer community an early Christmas gift with the update 1.5.0 for the free Supermassive reverb plugin. Two very extraordinary reverb algorithms that will keep you busy over the upcoming holidays.

There is also excellent news for VintageVerb users. The plugin also got a new update with a new algorithm. One who takes you into the cathedral of sound.

ValhallaDSP VintageVerb 2.2.0

As a reminder: VintageVerb is a fantastic reverb plugin that is packed with classic digital reverb algorithms inspired by the most beloved reverb hardware from the 1970s and 1980s. Vintage reverb connoisseurs will find it hard to get past this plugin, especially for $50. According to Sean Costello from ValhallaDSP, the new 2.2.0 version is the biggest update for VintageVerb in a long time.

In introduces the new Cathedral reverb mode that is based on an algorithm for the Spin Semiconductor FV-1 chip. Known especially from the zDSP module from TipTop Audio where ValhallaDSP has developed some algorithm cartridges. The original algorithm is very optimized for the chip, which has limitations especially in the delay memory. It is capable of creating big diffuse sound and ensemble style modulation.

More Power

The VintageVerb version of this Cathedral algorithm, however, got more power and is more flexible. It use more delay memory for bigger more expansive attack & delay, as well as a more open and transparent sound. It also includes much more sophisticated damping section, which allows for high frequencies to smoothly decay away as found in large acoustic spaces. Like in the original, it also features the ensemble modulation with rate and depth controls perfect for lush chorusing.

The Cathedral algorithm is perfect for epic synth verbs, but is also well suited for vocals and acoustic instruments. Further, they modified the information text in the upper right corner of the plugin so that the user can tell at a glance the version number, the type of plugin running in the DAW (VST/VST3/AAX/AU), and Intel versus ARM when running on a Mac. The functionality we already know from the Supermassive update. Very handy.

Again a great update from ValhallaDSP. After the Supermassive update, this is now an early Christmas present for all VintageVerb users. Thanks a lot Sean.

ValhallaDSP VintageVerb 2.2.0 update is free of charge for existing users. And there is no Black Friday sale, because the ValhallaDSP plugins are on sale for a whole year for $50
