Superbooth 21: SYNTH GEMS 1 bundles the magic of vintage synthesizers in a new illustrated book highlighting the creators, the history, and technology.

The Superbooth 21 will be a true gear fest. If that’s too much for you, it also offers news that does not generate noise but informs and invites you to relax. This calm down moment can be experienced at the booth of BJOOKS (W242), who recently published numerous very informative and well-written books about electronic music gear.

Fans of the books can look forward to it. BJOOKS, the publisher presents a new book for Superbooth 21. This time not written by the boss Kim Bjørn himself but by Dr. Mike” Metlay. A well-known synth expert and music technology writer.

Designs/interfaces of electronic music instruments, Eurorack modules, pedals, Moog synths … the publisher Bjooks has already covered many topics in lovely releases. All highly recommended. The new release “SYNTH GEMS 1” celebrates vintage Synthesizers and the people who created in a 320-page hardcover art book. Mike Metlay takes readers on a chronological journey through a unique selection of over 60 vintage synthesizers from 1970 to 2000.

Like in every Bjooks book release so far, a well-known musician has also written the foreword. This time, none other than Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure) wrote down his thoughts in the foreword.

The book gives readers detailed information about the history, technology, and legend of dozens of synthesizers (Yamaha GX-1, Korg PS-3330…)  that shaped the last three decades of the 20th Century. Each instrument is stunningly photographed, and the accompanying text gives readers a detailed breakdown of its historical context, sonic design, visual aesthetics, and impact in the contemporary music world.

So you can only read the fascination in well-researched articles but also in HQ pictures. It’s like a guided tour through a Synthesizer museum that you can experience in the armchair from home.

Kim Bjørn says

“SYNTH GEMS is truly an ode to the synthesizer in all its forms,” adds Kim Bjørn, CEO and founder of Bjooks. “Paging through the book, readers will come across popular favorites like the Sequential Circuits Prophet-5, as well as rare instruments like the Lord Synthesisers Skywave. SYNTH GEMS is a must-have for any fan of electronic music — whether they’re a lifelong musician or just starting out.”

“Over the last few years, there’s been a massive increase in interest in these beautiful vintage instruments,” Bjørn says. “As a result, we wanted the SYNTH GEMS series to provide those just starting out with a solid basis and unique insight into the history of synthesizers. We hope that some of these pages might inspire creative musical journeys among our readers.”

The new book looks like a wonderful historical and informative resource. And the most important thing: it works forever because it doesn’t need electricity.

SYNTH GEMS 1 will premiere at Superbooth 21. It will be available through authorized resellers, and at bjooks.com beginning on Oct. 1st in the EU and from Nov. 1st in the US. Pricing is as follows: 450 DKK / $69.95 USD / € 59,95 EUR / $89.95 CAD.
