Igor Vasiliev’s latest iOS/macOS plugin, Stellarvox, takes you deep into space design using two advanced combined reverb algorithms.
The iOS platform is fascinating. Many new, highly talented developers who are not known from the classic plugin world have found a home in it. One person who massively enriches this platform is Igor Vasiliev, who stands for innovation.
None of his app ideas (synths, effects, etc.) existed. They possess distinctiveness and a spirit of experimentation, guiding users into uncharted sonic territories. His latest app, Stellarvox, is a unique take on an algorithmic reverb.
Details
Until recently, Igor Vasiliev’s apps were only available to iOS users. Thanks to the Apple Silicon architecture, the apps can now also be used on macOS M systems as a standalone or AUv3 plugin in Ableton Live, Reaper,.. and others at no extra charge. This also applies to the new release.
Stellarvox is an algorithmic reverb or, as Igor describes it, a hybrid reverb. It combines an artificial space designer with algorithmic reflection tail processing. And it’s not another classic reverb.
Its specialness begins with the space designer himself. The core is based on the construction of a complex model of resonant sound spaces with flexibility in mind. You can set the space’s geometry, dimensions, and tonal structure. So, not your usual reverb parameters: time, decay…
A unique feature of the Stellarvox engine is the ability to change the reflection timbre over the reverberation time dynamically. The core also hosts a second algorithmic reverb. It allows you to extend and blur the reflections of the first, adding extra dimensions to the sound space.
There is also a EQ for shaping the timbres and an output section. Managing this super complex engine may sound complicated and not very creative.
Don’t worry; Igor Vasiliev has packaged everything so the nerdy stuff stays behind closed doors. You can explore the engine with an easy-to-use single-screen interface with optimally designed parameters that always give great results, promises Igor Vasiliev.
Further, it ships with various factory presets and a random feature. The latter allows you to create new inspiring reverb timbres with a touch.
The app/plugin can generate an immersive ambiance of deep spaces, lush atmospheric textures, or stunning whispering backgrounds in your ambient, electronic, experimental, and sound design projects.
First Impression
The examples from the demo sound fantastic. It’s a reverb, but not only. The flexibility of the engine also allows you to generate spaces that have their own no-reverb character. I’m looking forward to trying out Igor’s new sound processor. This could be another highlight in its growing portfolio.
Stellavox by Igor Vasiliev is available now for $11,99 for iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS (Apple Silicon) with AUv3 support.
