United Plugins Relooper is a new real-time loop remix engine plugin with multi-FX for macOS and Windows, developed in collaboration with JMG Sound.
Many music producers use loops, either self-made or from a sample library. With a sampler, you can easily slice them, and with effects, you can manipulate them so that they no longer sound like the original file.
A new plugin promises to make this even easier. United Plugins has introduced Relooper, a real-time loop remixer plugin that turns existing loops upside down.
United Plugins Relooper
Relooper is a new real-time groove loop remix engine plugin for macOS and Windows. The plugin is developed in collaboration with JMG Sound, a developer they already worked with for the Cyberdrive distortion plugin.
Even though it has many effects, it’s not a classic multi-effects unit. United Plugins Relooper offers two channels that can be mixed with the dry signal.
Each channel has an independent groove engine that captures slices of incoming audio into the buffer. Then these slices are replayed at various speeds, directions, and positions based on 64 available patterns.
They are sorted into eight categories, including time-based (quarter, half…), repeat, reverse, remix, syncopate, stutter, complex, and glitch.
You can also filter the results with highpass and lowpass filters, morph it to noise, offset the timing, duck it against the dry signal, or pan it.
3 Distinct Manglers
In the lower section, the signal passes three distinct sound design modules. The profile section morphs your sound into one of 64 available profiles. They adopted the characteristics of drum types (kick, snare, etc.), foley, synth, resonant, and 3D space.
For example, you can morph your existing sound into a kick or snare sound. Wild, you can also use a MIDI input to resynthesize your audio input into a Synthesizer.
One step further, you have the effect module, which houses 64 effect types, including distortion, modulation, filters, compressors, EQ, reverbs, and more. You can use one FX at a time to manipulate or enhance your sound.
The last is the Motion module, which is essentially a one-parameter modulation engine with 120 modulation modes. It can be an auto-fill generator, a trance-gater, a sidechain-style pumping effect, and more.
Additionally, you have a smart randomizer algorithm that gives you instant new results by generating new settings on user-defined parameters. And all this mangling fun is synchronized with the host DAW tempo.
First Impression
At first glance, Relooper looks like a fun plugin that lets you quickly and easily mangle existing loops. You can do similar things in Ableton Live or any other DAW, but it takes longer. If you prefer something faster, this might be worth a look.
United Plugins Relooper is available now for an introductory price of 15€, down from 79€, for a limited time. It runs as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
