RTMS VAPolyLoop is a new AUv3 virtual analog Synthesizer plugin for iOS and macOS designed to be sequenced.

Ryo Togawa is certainly one of the most prolific iOS developers in synthesizer releases. He releases a new app almost every two months. And hey, there’s a new one!

RTMS has just released VAPolyLoop, a new virtual analog synthesizer focused on sequencing.

VAPolyLoop is a new 8-voice AUv3 Synthesizer for iOS and macOS that follows a classic subtractive, virtual-analog concept. RTMS VAPolyLoop features three multi-wave oscillators with classic controls, including tune, fine-tune, shape, PW, and level.

From here, the signal passes through a resonant diode ladder lowpass filter with cutoff and resonance controls, as well as direct access to the envelope routing and accent controls. There is also a dedicated VCA section with adjustable volume and pan.

The VCA also houses a distortion effect with tone control, bass boost, and more. Alongside his, it also has a multi-FX section with tweakable delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, EQ, and compressor.

A key feature of VAPolyLoop is its built-in analog-style step sequencer with 16-bar patterns per clip and a total of 8 clips. You can program it easily on the fly with note and gate parameters or with the piano roll. Neat, it also supports parameter automation.

Yes, the synth is somewhat reminiscent of a bassline Synthesizer. Project files can be saved in iCloud Drive, so that the project can be accessed from iPhone, iPad, or Mac. There is also an internal audio recorder with audio export of Linear PCM format (AIFF, WAV, and CAF) and compressed format (AAC).

Further, it supports MIDI 2.0, a foot pedal, and per-note channel control. Ableton Link and Bluetooth MIDI are also onboard.

First Impression

At first glance, another nice Synthesizer from RTMS. However, on closer inspection, it’s essentially the same as what other RTMS apps already do. I would have liked to see more playful features in the sequencer, especially since it’s the main focus.

I would be happy if Ryo Togawa developed a flagship synth that combines everything he’s packed into his last six synths, to avoid repetition in his portfolio, which is already pretty high.

RTMS VAPolyLoop is available now for an introductory price of $5,99 instead of $14,99 (60% OFF) until February 28, 2025.

It runs as a standalone app and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS (native Apple Silicon).
