Ocean Swift Synthesis Tyrian Tine is a new free hybrid wavetable/sample-based wavetable Synthesizer for Kontakt Player.
In September 2024, Ocean Swift Synthesis released Porphyra Hybrid, a Synthesizer instrument that utilizes Kontakt 8’s wavetable synthesis engine.
Ocean Swift Synthesis released Tyrian Tine for Christmas, a free virtual instrument based on the same concept for Kontakt 8 Player.
Ocean Swift Synthesis Tyrian Tine
Tyrian Tine is a hybrid, asymmetrical, dual-layer engine featuring a wavetable and a sample oscillator. It’s designed for generating unique, randomized bell and chime tones.
The wavetable generator offers 11 wavetables to choose from, with a handful of parameters to tweak: tune, sub v, vibrato, morph, and more.
On the right of the interface, you can find the sample oscillator with 34 samples, including bells, kalimbas, music boxes, and other metallic oddities. This offers classic controls like gain, tune, sample start, start random, and start velocity.
Part of Ocean Swift Synthesis, Tyrian Tine is an engine that introduces purposeful instability, morphing, and controlled, musical randomization. You can customize the behaviour of this randomization engine within the user interface.
Further, you can refine your sounds with a hands-on multi-FX section featuring four effects: filter, tremolo, delay, and reverb.
Tyrian Tine is fully NKS2 compatible, enabling custom mapping and expressive control directly from supported hardware. These include the Native Instruments MK3 keyboard, where every single parameter is displayed in the hardware.
This new Ocean Swift Synthesis instrument can produce a wide range of bell and chime sounds. They range from crystalline fantasy tintinnabulation to gritty, bronze-like strikes and haloed sci-fi swells.
Tyrian Tine drops straight into ambient cues, fantasy/sci-fi scoring, game audio, and evocative sound design whenever you want bells that feel otherworldly yet sharply present.
First Impression
Free Kontakt libraries that also work with the Kontakt Player are relatively rare. A bonus point is awarded for this decision. Tyrian Tine is a beautiful virtual instrument well-suited to ambient or soundtrack composition.
I’m sure the instrument works great for Christmas tracks or for more fantasy-driven soundtracks.
