Mario Nieto is giving away the M4L Legacy Pack for free, filled with creative and inspiring M4L devices like MIDI melody generators and more.
Mario Nieto is a developer best known for his Harmony Boom and Chord Generator plugins. Before the plugin business, he also created exciting Max for Live devices.
Many years ago, I used the Random Riff Generator Pro 2 and the Random Filter Generator 2, plugins that allowed random pattern generation. Mario Nieto is now putting an end to these M4L projects and giving them away in a Legacy Pack.

It’s time to say goodbye to his Max for Live devices. Mario Niets has now officially discontinued his M4L devices and offers them as a free download. It’s a shame that there will be no updates or support for these devices.
During this time, many exciting M4L devices have been created that you can now download and use for free. It includes seven distinct devices.
Random Riff Generator PRO 2 is a MIDI tool that generates sequences for you that can be sent to any Ableton instrument device or external MIDI instrument. Press the main dice button to create random melodies, sequences, and musical riffs (in key).
Then, Random Chords Generator PRO follows the same concept but with MIDI chords from the MIDI notes received.
It comes with 52 chord types and control for manual or automatic randomization for inversion, velocity, and the arp/delay of individual chord notes. Additionally, it has semitone transposition, a final scale option through 42 modalities, and more.
You can never have enough randomness, and that’s why there are other random devices. Random Groove Generator Pro is a tool with four channels that generates pattern sequences for you.
Unlike the previous devices, you can load in your own samples and use them as a groovebox. It’s exciting that you can randomize not only the steps but also the pitch, volume, filter, sample point, number of notes, and more.
Random Filter Generator 2 is a filter FX processor device that combines multimode filtering (highpass, lowpass, bandpass, and notch) with 64-step sequencing. With a simple press on the dice button, you can generate endless new sequenced filter effects.
More Tools
Another device in the Mario Nieto M4L Legacy Pack is Midifidget, which also randomly generates MIDI notes for internal and external MIDI instruments.
You can also use it polyrhythmically by using multiple instances where each has a different mode and scale. There is also a Midifidget (Hater Edition) with the same feature set but a different design.
Last but not least, we have the PokeSample Ball, a sound-capturing tool for Max for Live that captures sounds from anywhere.
Sample in real time with the REC button the incoming signal, or drag and drop any file from anywhere. Uses PitchKachu to generate random pitch values for all steps.
First Impression
Seven very creative and inspiring M4L tools. For people who use Ableton Live and Max for Live, this is a no-brainer deal. I’m not sure yet, but we have to check if the tools still work in the latest Live 12.
Mario Nieto M4L Legacy Pack is available now as a free download. It requires Ableton Live Suite or a Max for Live license with Ableton Live Standard. All devices are discontinued and provided as-is, with no updates or support.
