At SynthFest France 2025, ThreeTom Modular unveiled a new project for unique, colorful upcycled Eurorack cases.

Every year, new music tech devices come onto the market. Many of them are made from materials that are harmful to our environment over time. However, there are products or ideas from companies that are trying to be more environmentally friendly.

ThreeTom Modular showcased a study at SynthFest France 2025 for upcycled Eurorack cases.

Tom Verschooten has been developing a new case concept over the past few months. At SynthFest France, he showcased a prototype of this.

Instead of wood or metal, the cases are based on recycled industrial waste. What’s nice is that it’s highly customizable. The customer can choose the colors and the size of the grain.

Then, a unique plastic plate is pressed in a circular process to fix all the material. According to the developer, the material has better durability than wood, as it doesn’t absorb anything.

A downer is the price. Tom says that it’s more expensive to craft a case from upcycled industrial waste than from wood.

There are no concrete plans yet regarding the sizes of the cases, as it’s just a study for now. But Tom Verschooten said that the material allows for a wide range of possible sizes. Also neat, every case will be unique in design, as it’s impossible to replicate the color scheme to another case made with the same concept.

In addition to the new case, ThreeTom Modular also showcased its current modules. Of course, this included Steve’s MS-22, a dual-analog VCF based on the Korg MS-20 filter, but with a feature set on steroids.

First Impression

I think it’s an interesting idea to make cases from industrial waste. I especially like that each case is unique in terms of color. We’ll have to wait and see how much the cases will cost, but it’s great to see that they try to make something good for the environment.

The ThreeTom Modular upcycled Eurorack cases are case studies and not confirmed products. The modules are available now.
