NAMM 2025: Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkify X is a new envelope filter and octave pedal designed to maximize your funk.

NAMM day 3 starts in a few minutes, and numerous new products have already been introduced. A large part of the exhibition space belongs to guitar developers who showcase the latest releases, including new pedals.

There is some interesting news from Greece. Tsakalis AudioWorks has announced the Phonkify X, a new funky effects pedal for guitar players.

Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkify X

Phonkify X is the successor of its Phonkify effects pedal and consists of an envelope filter and an octave section.  Like the initial pedal, the developer remains true to himself with the colorful design in orange and blue.

Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkify X features a multimode filter with switchable lowpass, bandpass, and lowpass-highpass types.

Lowpass gives warm, buttery tones, the bandpass a snappy, in-your-face attitude, and a unique cosmic sweeping trip with the lowpass-highpass combo. There is also a cutoff and a Q knob to control the filter. Plus, there are three wah-wah modes, including lowpass, bandpass, and highpass.

Then, it also hosts an octave section, which can be changed in the signal position: post-filter, pre-filter, or in order. You can work an octave up, an octave down, or a blend of both.

Extra Juice

If you need more justice, you can crank up the master volume to fine-tune your input, while the pedal’s internal voltage doubling gives you enough headroom. True Bypass keeps your original signal pure when you step off the funk train.

As it befits this type of effect, Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkify X offers footswitches for the octave and filter, allowing you to play both effects expressively. More precisely, you raise the funk-o-meter to the max and play your funky, wah-wah, and filtering effects grooves with it.

The pedal is not only suitable for funky sounds. You can also use it with other effects to create experimental soundscapes.

Connectivity is on the backside and the side. You get a mono input and output and an expression pedal input on the connectivity side.

First Impression

At first glance, it’s a nice, solid new envelope filter /octave pedal for guitar players.

Tsakalis AudioWorks Phonkify X is available now for pre-order for 219,99€. It will start shipping on March 18, 2025.
