Noise Engineering Confundo Funkidos is a new multi-channel probabilistic rhythmic crossfader for Eurorack and the successor of the Confundo Funkitus.
If you use drum modules, you can’t avoid rhythmic elements. These can be generated in various ways, but mostly with a drum sequencer. To make jams as exciting as possible, you use different patterns or even tools with which you can evolve patterns without having to program everything from scratch everytime.
One such tool is a crossfader with which you can smoothly morph from one pattern to another. Noise Engineering has just dropped the Confundo Funkidos, an updated version of its popular multi-channel rhythm crossfader with probability.
Noise Engineering Confundo Funkidos
Confundo Funkidos is the successor to the 2016-released Confundo Funkitus module. It remains a 12HP four-part probabilistic rhythm crossfader and mute utility for Eurorack.
Like the original module, it has four sets of two gate inputs each. The inputs can be crossfaded manually or via a control voltage using probability. Simply patch two pairs of rhythms to the left and right inputs, and the crossfading fun starts. You can do this manually with the CV-controllable crossfader at the bottom of the module or more creatively with the help of the built-in algorithms.
Noise Engineering has incorporated three different curve algorithms in the Confundo Funkidos that manipulate the behavior of the crossfader. Again, there is the burn function that creates instant fills. According to the developers, the Confundo Funkidos has an expanded version of the original burn functionality. It now has an additional potentiometer for more versatile and hands-on fill creation.
Each channel has a mute switch which can be used to bring a voice in and out of a patch at will. You can easily silence individual channels with it. They now have three positions: each channel can output triggers but not receive Burn fills or output accents when set to the middle position.
The second version includes four Accent outputs, which were not available in the 2016-released Confundo Funkitus module. Accent patterns are generatively created using the rhythms at the inputs, adding a new, dynamic dimension to even the simplest trigger sequences. The accents have dedicated jack outputs that output high or low gates, great for percussion modules or modulation sources.
First Impression
At first glance, a nice further development of the Confundo Funkitus. The new Accent option is a neat extension on the new Confundo Funkidos.
Noise Engineering Confundo Funkidos is available now for pre-order for $345. Shipping from NE and retailers will start this week (Jan 9, 2025).
