Sequential Prophet-10 Special Edition is limited to 150 units, and features exclusive lacewood paneling for the company’s 50th birthday.

The year 2024 is a special one for Sequential Circuits, or Sequential for short. The American Synthesizer company, founded in 1974 by Dave Smith, is celebrating its 50th birthday. Happy Birthday.

Sequential has just released the Prophet-10 Special Edition to celebrate this special event.

Sequential Prophet-10 Special Edition

From the technical side, the new Prophet-10 Special Edition is the same 10-voice analog polysynth as the regular Prophet-10 from 2020. The difference is, however, that the Special edition offers an exclusive lacewood paneling limited to 150 units worldwide.

The Prophet-10 Special Edition features distinctive lacewood panels that are not only visually stunning but also individual to each instrument, serving as a constant source of exotic inspiration.

Great music comes from great instruments, and the Prophet-10 stands as a rarified piece, securing its place in our culture and consciousness – and the Special Edition is a beautiful addition to this well-earned legacy.

First Impression

Phew, I always find it difficult to report on special editions because they are usually just for marketing purposes and don’t make any significant changes.

Here’s one for Sequential’s 50th birthday. It looks nice, but that’s all.  I leave it up to you whether the $600 extra charge is worth it to have an exclusive Prophet-10.

Sequential Prophet-10 will soon be available with an MSRP of $4999,99. Alternatively, the regular version of the Prophet-10 is available for $4399,99.

  1. This is…’okay’? This lacewood is a very specific flavor; I would rather see colors (still would), a la Moog Voyager Select Series? No need for backlit panels:) White / whitewash, black, maple, cherry, or even some high quality 3D-printed red, blue, green or yellow plastic? Imagine the weight relief!:) This sniffs of like what an audio company like Focusrite thinks boutique synth players might like, as opposed to what they actually might like – which could be a new/old classic powerhouse synth with a modern, offbeat aesthetic twist.

  2. they should’ve gone double manual, like the original or a very high quality weighted poly AT keybed like the T8.
