Sinevibes Flare, new Korg plugin makes additive synthesis in hardware easy

Sinevibes Flare is a new Korg plugin that brings hands-on, easy-to-use additive synthesis to the prologue, minilogue xd, and NTS-1.

With the multi-engine, Korg offers a fascinating platform for third-party developers to bring new ideas to the Korg hardware synths. This is possible at both the oscillator and FX levels and without hurdles such as licensing or anything like that.

The latest addition is a new Korg oscillator from Sinevibes, one of the most active developers in this area. This catapults your Korg multi-engine synth into the additive world.

The Korg prologue, minilogue xd, and NTS-1 get an additive synthesis injection. Don’t worry; it won’t be as nerdy as a Synclavier or Kawai K5000S Synthesizer. Sinevibes has broken down additive synthesis to the essentials to make it as accessible and simple as possible. To the details.

Flare is an additive synthesis oscillator that runs eight sine wave partials pre-configured as a harmonic series with full aliasing suppression.

The eight-sine wave configuration can be shaped using multiple harmonic pitch rate curves, allowing you to achieve timbres from smooth and organic to atonal and metallic. In short, a wide range of sounds is possible.

With the dedicated spectrum trim feature, you can gradually reduce the amount of additive harmonics. According to Sinevibes, it acts like an ideal brick-wall lowpass filter and it progressively works towards the higher frequency range, resulting in a perfectly clean output with absolutely zero aliasing.

Then, Flare also hosts a modulation engine, consisting of an envelope generator and LFO for modulating the pitch, spectral curve, and spectral trim parameters. Nice, you can route it onto three parameters at the same time.

Sinevibes ships the new plugin with 20 example plugins, that runs on all the pre-mentioned hardware synths.

First Impression

Another fascinating Korg plugin from Sinevibes. One that brings a new tone color to the multi-engine powered synth trio. Here you can immerse your Korg synth in new sound areas for little money. Love it.

Sinevibes Flare is available now for $29 and runs as a Korg SDK plugin on the prologue, minilogue xd, and NTS-1.
