RIP Gert Jalass, analog synth specialist and founder of the 5U modular synth company Moon Modular, passed away on May 7th, 2024.
The Superbooth is an event where people have fun, laugh, and have a good time. They also celebrate many new Synthesizer releases. The best days of the year. Unfortunately, there is also sad news in this edition.
Andreas Schneider and the organization team received Thursday morning the sad news that Gert Jalass of Moon Modular had died unexpectedly.
RIP Gert Jalass
Gert Jalass, known for his passionate work at Moon Modular, died of a heart attack on May 7th while vacationing in Denmark. It’s a big loss for the Synthesizer community as Gert was known for his expertise in analog technology.
With his recognized Moon Modular company, he has released many vintage-style 5U modules in the past—no Moog clones, but new designs. For example, Gert Jalass planned to present new filters from the east and west coasts at Superbooth 24. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen anymore
One of the biggest Moon Modular projects was Ed Buller’s system in its studio or Hans Zimmer’s modular synth system for its live tour.
On the other hand, he has contributed to many companies or worked together, for example, with Erica Synths.
To remember Gert and his achievements, Andreas Schneiders quickly converted the Superbooth 24 event schedule and held a memorial ceremony at which many developers said goodbye.
Today, Thursday may 16th we just found out, we lost our dear friend an colleague Gert Jallas of moon modular. Many of you have known Gert through all these trade shows here in berlin and in the USA.
We were supposed to help Gert with demos this year in den moon booth as we all have in the past but sadly this year we will not. We are at a great loss, we will miss you, our dear friend.

I met Gert a few years ago and remember him as a very pleasant, friendly person who was always there for a chat and for everyone, regardless of whether you were a newbie or a full 5U professional. He introduced everyone to his passion for modular synthesizers.
Gert leaves a big gap in the 5U Synthesizer world as his modules greatly enriched the small 5U module community.
For many, the first day of Superbooth 24 was marked by this shocking news. All I have to say is RIP, Gert Jalass. You were a person who is fondly remembered both professionally and personally. You were a synth pioneer, especially in the 5U world. Thank you for everything.

It makes me sad to see these posts where no one comments. It’s like life doesnt matter. I didnt know this man, never used his products but still feel sorry for his passing.
RIP Gert, thanks for all the good vibes, laughs and gear chats over the years. Your knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for your gear was incredible to witness and I really enjoyed hanging out with you.
