Arturia has released KeyStep Pro Chroma, a special edition with a new dark, industrial look along with a new firmware 2.5 update with new features.

With the KeyStep, KeyStep 37, and KeyStep Pro, Arturia has three successful hardware sequencers on the market. The most extensive is the KeyStep Pro with four polyphonic tracks.

This was published in 2020. In order to stimulate more interest in this sequencer again, Arturia is releasing a special edition of it onto the market, called Chroma. On top, they published a new firmware update for all existing KeyStep Pro users.

Arturia KeyStep Pro Chroma

The new KeyStep Pro Chroma is a new special edition of the KeyStep Pro with an alluring dark finish giving it an industrial look. Unlike the regular version, it features new bright blue LEDs on the pitch and mod touch strips, encoders, and more.

Then, the Chroma offers new stylish knob caps that have great feeling, says Arturia in its press release. The feature set of KeyStep Pro Chroma is identical to the regular version, with one difference. On the Chroma, users can now customize the color of each track. Otherwise, everything is the same:

  • 3-octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch
  • 4 independent polyphonic sequencer tracks
  • 24-part integrated drum sequencer
  • MIDI, CV, and USB connectivity
  • crisp OLED display and LED-illuminated controls
  • create with chains, projects, patterns, and scenes

Besides the new KeyStep Pro Chroma, Arturia has also released a firmware 2.5 update with new features.

A major new feature is the ability to send program changes per pattern and MIDI track. Also the access to the track settings has also been simplified. You can now quickly change track-specific settings by pressing shift & track number.

Further, you can now work with fixed velocity on pressed keys and triggered notes.

First Impression

A nice update for the Keystep Pro. It’s a shame that there aren’t more new features, especially for the sequencer. There is still a lot of untapped potential. The Special Edition looks nice, but you don’t necessarily need it.

Arturia KeyStep Pro Chroma is available soon for 499€. Firmware 2.5 is a free update for existing users.
