Neutral Labs has published two new Eurorack modules: Nijel a new user-customizable distortion, and PIP, a dual morphing clocked CV generator.
Neutral Labs is an indie developer of standalone synthesizers and Eurorack modules with their very own, experimental-oriented features. None of his developments are classic.
With the ELMYRA, a hybrid drone synth that is inspired by the SOMA Labs Lyra-8, Martin made a name for himself for the first time in the synth community. Exciting Eurorack modules followed with unique feature sets. Neutral Labs recently published two new modules for 2023, both again very intriguing.
Nijel
Nijel is a new 4HP distortion module with a single mono input/output and a drive knob.
Unlike many distortion modules, you can fully customize the distortion timbre here. The module allows you to change its character either by plugging in components (diodes, resistors…) or preset cartridges directly to the front panel.
The preset cartridges are convenient here because they give you instant access to a variety of distortion flavors. They are also compatible with the Scrat flexible multimode filter says Neutral Labs
If you are more of a technical musician, you can also use the components. Assembled modules and DIY kits come with small components for out-of-the-box experimentations. And the distortion timbres that you get out of the module range from classic to super harmonic rich ones that go in the direction of waveshaping.
Neutral Labs PIP
Second new module is called PIP and is a two-channel 8HP CV generator. More precisely, it includes two morphable CV generators/complex LFOs with various settings. You can sync them to each other in a predefined ratio, use them unsynced or let them phase shift between each other.
PIP includes many preset waveforms and random waves for instant fun. Alternatively, you can record and morph your own external CV or knob movements which makes the module very flexible.

Two exciting new modules from Neutral Labs with lovely ideas allow musicians to explore experimental sound worlds.
The Neutral Labs modules (Nijel, PIP) will be available in January 2023 as an assembled module or full DIY kits from retailers

It’s such a filthy distortion that you need gloves to keep your hands clean 😀
