Happy Nerding FX Aid, New Stereo Filters, Dynamic Processing Effects & More

In both Happy Nerding FX Aid / FX Aid XL there was a large increase in new algorithms including new limiters, compressors, stereo filters & more.

One of the most successful effect modules is the FX Aid from Happy Nerding. Last year it came in an XL version that has more HP, additional I/O but the same engine. This, however, is a big highlight. The FX Aid is a multi-effects processor with 32 memory slots for effect algorithms. From creative delays, lush reverbs, pitch shifters, bit-crusher, and more. You get a huge range of effects in a small module.

For the developer, the module is an affair of the heart. He publishes new effects almost every month and the number is growing and growing. With the intuitive web-based editor, you can add/remove effects in seconds. The whole thing is not witchcraft. In the past few months, Igor added many new algorithms that I would like to highlight here. Thanks, Igor for the great updates.

Happy Nerding FX Aid Dynamic Effects

Lo-Fi & Dynamic Processing Effects

The beginning makes Lo-Fi Junky an effect that is inspired by the Zvex Instant Lo-Fi Junky effect pedal. The algorithm transforms your signal into an 80’s style compressed, lo-fi warbled signal. Great for haunting chorus sounds and pulsating vibrato.

Next, we have a massive update for the shapers category. In November 2020, Igor published the update that introduced a lot of different dynamic processing effects including limiters, compressors, noise gate & more.

  • limiter, limiter 3-band with autogain functionality, compressor RMS, compressor peak, compressor sidechain
  • noise gate cuts the noise floor at high gains, expander, and clipper.

xFader & Stereo Filters

The xFader effect is another new effect in the shapers category. It allows you to blend L and R inputs with the desired mix law and tone. It also works as a panner if only the L input is used and a dummy plug is inserted into the R input. This breaks the input normalization.

Whoever believed that was all does not know Igor. Shortly before the end of 2020, the developer published another batch of new shaper effects. This time the FX Aid / FX Aid XL has received a variety of digital stereo filters. This update includes:

  • lowpass Moog, low pass 4 pole, low pass 2 pole, high pass 4 pole, high pass 2 pole,
  • bandpass 4 pole, bandpass 2 pole, bandpass width,
  • notch
  • DJ

If you are looking for a stereo filter and have an unused FX Aid in the rack, now you know where to find one.

Updates will continue in 2021. Just yesterday he published the Noise Station algorithm, a new shaper effect. Noise Station is a stereo noise source with tunable colors. The algorithm has three parameters: tune, shape, and tone. The tune sets the noise type. It starts with classic white noise and with more and more rotations, you get other different noise flavors. The shape knob does stereo field noise crossfade and tone is a filter for high/low frequencies.

All in all, five great free algorithm updates that make the module even more exciting. Many users will be particularly pleased with the stereo filters and dynamic effects. Both are always welcome helpers in every Eurorack system. Thanks, Igor!

The new Happy Nerding FX Aid / FX Aid Aid XL effects are ready for download from the web app. The modules are available for 170€ + VAT/200USD & 199€ + VAT /250/USD + VAT.
