Stylophone Stylosette Keys is a new mini Synthesizer with a built-in delay controllable with touch plates or organically with plats via alligator clips.

Christmas is one day away, but there is more hardware synth news. This time, unannounced and very surprising from the UK.

Dubreq, the developer of various modern Stylophone Synthesizer, including the new Theremin and CPM DS-2, has released the Stylosette Keys, a new mini Synthesizer.

Stylosette Keys is a super compact cassette version of the popular Stylophone Synthesizer. According to the developer, it works with the same sound generation as the original Stylophone. Here, too, there are almost no parameters to tweak.

The product looks very similar to the Microkits Synth-a-Sette cassette Synthesizer.

You can play the sound, adjust the octave, and add vibrato using sensor-based touch plates. Nope, the famous stylo is not onboard.

Knobs for speed and depth control of the vibrato are not available. You must adjust the “screw-knobs” with a screwdriver on the left side. Yes, this is another concept for tweaking parameters.

The new Stylosette Keys has a built-in delay with adjustable time and repeat parameters. Also, this is adjustable with a screwdriver. At maximum settings, endless echoes with a lo-fi sound are created.

Dubreq has highlighted a multi-pin socket below the keyboard, which can be used in various ways. For example, you can connect an analog sequencer or cables to it.

The new synth ships with crocodile clips that can be clamped, for example, to plants. Once connected, the plants produce the note sequence and height for you.

Stylophone Stylosette Keys runs on 2x AAA batteries and features a built-in speaker and headphone jack. This allows you to play it everywhere you go. Batteries, cables, and accessories are included.

From the features, it looks very similar to the Microkits Synth-a-Sette. But there are some differences: the built-in delay, no USB-C, and the vibrato effect is adjustable. I also think the sound is different because it is based on the sound of the Stylophone.

First Impression

At first glance, it is a fun iteration of the classic Stylophone. I like the built-in delay. The GEN X-1 already has one that harmonizes wonderfully with the Stylophone sound. I also love the possibility of clamping it to plants.

Stylophone Stylosette is available now for $39,95/39,28€.

  1. I saw the other articles writing about this product today, like on GearNews, and they mention an earlier synth called the “Synth-a-Sette”. The two synths look really similar an have a lot of the same functions, what do you think is going on there?
