Erica Synths has expanded its space-saving Pico module range with the EF, a multi-functional envelope follower, and a “powerful” VCA2.
Rack space is precious. Quite simply modules often take up a lot of space in the system and thus for better modules, therefore, HP are missing for better ones. To save space, you can use modules that do a lot in one or you can use small, compact ones with only 2/3HP. For example, Erica Synths’ Pico series offers a lot of in only 3 HP.
The lineup just got an update with two new handy modules.
Erica Synths Pico EF
Pico EF is Erica Synth’s interpretation of a compact envelope follower with a solid set of features. It has a powerful preamp with +40dB that even gives enough juice for guitar and dynamic microphone levels. That’s a smart move from the developers because so you can incorporate other timbres in your modular setup. The module has an envelope and gate output, each with an adjustable parameter (attack/threshold). Besides the envelope follower function, it can act as a preamp, overdrive, or for controlling VCFs with audio signals. So you could control your modular with a guitar or other audio signals.
Erica Synths Pico VCA2
Pico VCA2 is as the name suggests a compact voltage-controlled amplifier module that is based on the AS3330 chip. This is a reproduction of the CEM3330 VCA chip. It features two independent channels where the first one comes with a manual offset adjustment. This is useful for full span vibrato effects. The module also is a buffered audio splitter thanks to its designs where the audio & CV inputs of the first CV are normalized to the second one. Further, the VCAs are DC-coupled means you can use them for controlling the amplitude of CV signals.
Both seem to me to be very clever, useful modules that offer a lot in a compact format.
