AudioKit Pro brings the classic sounds of the 90s for a limited time with its Digitalism 2000 Synthesizer rompler app on your iPad / iPhone
iOS continues to be my favorite as it is a constantly evolving platform with young developers eager to get their ideas out there. One of them is Matthew Fecher from AudioKit, who gave us the excellent free Synth One Synthesizer, for example. For some time now he has also been developing apps especially for the AudioKit community, which are only available for a limited time. Sounds weird but that’s how it is. Apps that only exist for a certain time and then no longer.
The latest one was published today and bears the name Digitalism 2000. The name reminds me of the electronic band Digitalism, Matthew might like that too, mmh good question. Digitalism 2000 is a new vintage synth module featuring exclusive sounds recorded from Digital Synths from the early 2000s. Retro and modern.
AudioKit Pro Digitalism 2000
The name says it all. You get here a lot of cheezy, digital sounds from the 90s in one Synthesizer app for iOS. According to the developer, these sounds were specially created for this app by the sound designers behind hit-making producers. That sounds very promising. Digitalism 2000 ships with 1000+ individual samples and 60+ multi-sampled PCM sound sources all compressed to under 200MB. However, you are not limited to the 100+ presets. The app is a real Synthesizer that allows you to build your own sounds.
Each patch consists of two parts, each of which can be equipped with a sound source. Each part has controls for the tuning (semi/detune), as well as panning. Then, you have a filter with a dedicated ADSR envelope, an ADSR amp envelope as well as several effects (reverb, delay, phaser…). Everything is very simple and intuitive. This guarantees an hassle-free app experience
All in all a very nice, almost kitish Synthesizer app. This is a must-have for anyone who likes the sounds of the 90s. It’s a kind of rompler, the possibilities are limited, but it’s a virtual instrument that is just fun.
AudioKit Digitalism 2000 is available now for a limited time for $2.99 USD on the Apple AppStore. It’s compatible with iPhone and iPad with AUv3 supports.
The apps will remain in the App Store so that you may download updates. After the “app drop”, the price in the app store will go to the maximum price tier. As long as you keep the same iTunes account, you may download updates and copies to new devices for free!
