In Reason 11.2, the Reason Rack plugin has been expanded with a new Algorhythmic Drummer device but also with a major MIDI upgrade including MIDI out support.

Reason 11 was one of the best software releases in 2019 in my opinion. Mainly because they took the step from the old Rewire technology to a dedicated Rack Plugin with which you can integrate the Reason instrument & effect universe problem-free into any DAW. So Reason 11 became a fully modular sound design plugin. However, the whole thing was not as perfect as my Reason 11 Rack Plugin review showed. So MIDI out was missing which is very important.

In Reason 11.2, this weak point of R11.1 has been fixed nicely. The new version comes MIDI Out support including a dedicated device for it. You can now send MIDI notes and MIDI CC from devices in Rack Plugin to your DAW. It’s also possible to patch up to eight CV signals from RR plugin devices and route them as MIDI CCs to Ableton, Logic Pro and more. More flexibility and creative workflows are now possible, nicely done.

Reason 11.2 Midi Out

The Reason 11.2 update also allows you now to drag MIDI notes from Redrum, Dr Octo Rex and Matrix in Reason Rack Plugin to tracks in your host DAW. Also a much welcome new features in my opinion.

Algorhythmic Drummer

Also new in Reason 11.2 (Standard & Suite) is Beat Map, an algorhythmic drummer rack extension. It’s a player instrument that generates drum patterns based on built-in beats, algorithms, and simple but powerful controls. It’s normally used with a drum instrument such as Kong, Rytmik or Umpf, but can also be used with melodic instruments for interesting results. Simply great for inspiration.
